I have become torn on list for an upcoming tournament. My original list is as follows:

2000 Pts - Imperial Guard Roster

Total Roster Cost: 2000

HQ:
4 Company Command Squad, 175pts Meltagun x4
1 Company Commander,
1 Officer of the Fleet,
1 Chimera, ML/HF

Elite:
8 Psyker Battle Squad, 155pts
1 Overseer
1 Chimera, ML/HB

Vet Squad 170pts; Plasma gun x3
1 Chimera, ML/Hull HF

Vet Squad 170pts; Plasma gun x3

The issues I have with the above roster is I feel I am too vulnerable in the troops category. At most I have 6 very fragile troops and that is if I combat squad. It will be hard for me to take/hold objectives with this force. I re-tooled a second list that i think might help fix the issue but at the cost of some fire power.

In this list I dropped 1 vendetta, 1 chimera, and the runes on the priest and picked up an aegis defense line with a quad gun and an infantry platoon to man the defense lines and help hold my home objectives while other troops advance. This helps the survivability of my troops and adds some more anti-air to the list. This is the first time I have taken a fortification. Which list do you all think is better?

I could run
Saint Celestine 115pts

10 Battle Sisters w/ melta, Multi-melta 145pts

5 Dominion Squad w/ 2 melta in Immolator w/ TL MM 170pts

Exorcist w/ storm bolter 145 pts

Total allied points: 575 pts.

This would bring an enemy troops killer in celestine. Offer an outflanking threat with the dominions which can also scout if desired. The exorcist will bring a nice threat to the table with D6 S8 AP1 missles which can be used to kill TEQ or help pop vehicles with +2 to the damage chart. Whatya guys think? I added the storm bolter to the exorcist just in case they get a weapons destroyed result its a 50% of keeping the missle launcher rather then losing it all together.

Was really hoping to get an outside opinion on this list. Which do you all think is better and/or are there area's I could improve the list?

I agree list 1 seems much more powerful. ^.^

List two is better, imo. Though I do not understand why anyone would choose not to take a blob with a Rune Priest attached. So damn powerful.

Yea, I can blob the infantry squads depending the mission. I am just looking for the best all comers list and I am unsure of which list would be more up to the task. The first list can put out more damage but the 2nd list I think is more survivable.

Nothing in your lists can combat squad. IG nor Space Wolves have the ability.

My buddy plays SW's I should of known that. This further strengthens my 2nd list. The tournament is a battle point based tournament and if I lose a few troops it could take down my score considerably.

If that's the cast why not spend 400 points on stuff that cannot die for the IG?

Melta Chims I find don't last long at all.

For some reason I think IG are more of a purist army. you *can* have allied units that synergize very well, but they take away from the IG's massive firepower base. It looks dirty having 16pt space marines and 5pt guardsmen next to one another. You neither have force concentration nor the firebase. Although with some of the idea's about IG floating around that seems to be how it's going.

Could you try to get a gunline IG with DP SW Termi's? The cost of Logan in that though would be... annoying.

Well if it is different then having space marines next to them I have contemplated running sisters of battle instead of space wolves in the 2nd list.

hydras are weaksauce now. BS1 against ground targets, and they do provide some nice AA firepower but honestly you have 2 vendettas that should be enough 90% of the time.

Vets in chimeras are a thing of the past. With the change to shaken affecting passengers when they disembark it makes the chimeras role as a transport much less reliable. It has nice firepower but its an obvious target to your opponent.

A single manticore won't be useful unless you can guarantee you can los block it. being only av 12 and 3 hp you won't get to fire it more then once, and that's if you reserve it or go 1st. Take a russ of any variety instead.

Take autocannons in your inf squads even if you move you can snapfire them. And it will increase the str 7+ firepower in your list.

With the change to rallying at 25% instead of 50% I haven't gotten much use out of my PBS this ed... Drop it from your lists.

Take SWS for your vendettas, small cheap scoring units out of planes with special weps are exceptionally useful.

Which allied variant should I field. The Space wolves list 1. Space wolves list 2 or Sisters of Battle list 2?

I also could run uriah and a battle conclave instead of Celestine and the dominions if I was worried about enemy elite infantry.
