question from another thread but very confused on what to use for a skyshield landing pad.

If say you get 25% obscured somehow from the skyshield landing pad, (say that the walls are up etc), do you get 3+ for being in a fortification?

On the flip side, the aegis defense line says in the terrain type: Debries (defense line) so it uses the defense line 4+ save (pretty universally agreed upon)

but the skyshield says: "Unique - counts as open terrain and moving on and off counts as difficult." but this doesn't tell us how to treat it.

The other bunkers say "medium building etc" so I'm pretty sure those count with the fortification rules for standing on the roof so you get 3+ cover (page 18)

I am not sure how to treat the skyshield however as I have no idea what it should count as.

Seeing as the battlements of the Bastion and Fortress of Redemption are counted as 4+ cover, I'd go with that for the Skyshield as well.

so when is the 3+ cover from a fortification ever used then?

I'm quite confused now lol

Also, where does it say battlements are 4+ cover? I'm trying to find the page but have been unsuccesful as the only other part I found was under battlefield debrie which doesn't count as that is barricades (page 104). I can't seem to find a number value to the cover of battlements possibly cause I'm blind but if someone can help me out, it'd be appreciated.

Rulebook FAQ, page 6.
Q. What is the armour value of battlements? (p95)
A: Battlements have no armour value as they are not a building. They serve to protect any models on the roof of the building in the same way as barricades and walls (see page 104), offering a 4+ cover save.

The Skyshield is not a "fortification" it counts as area terrain like the Aegis.

The save it grants is not a cover one but an invul one if the flaps are up.

If you get shot by something that ignores cover you still have your save provided the flaps are up.

Wrong. The 4++ is for any model standing atop the furled skyshield. LoS has no effect on gaining or having this save.

Obscured comes from 25% obscuring of a model. The question comes from what save would a model of have should it be obscured by a leg of the Skyshield and even if behind a furled section. This is important to for stealth and shrouded units.

The skyshield is not a building and does not have a battlements. It is not a wall or debris. It is unique terrain and is a fortification. Without a clear FAQ, you'd just be posturing. I lean for 3+ as it makes a $50 kit a shoe in, and must have. Thus sales. Because rules are never, ever made to sell models.

However, a 4+ cover is still dirty. Anything up top has a 2+ cover during night fighting first turn. That's lovely.
