Just wondering, what's the point in the bolt pistol? Is this a really stupid question and am I just stupid? But in wargear of most marines they have a boltgun eg sgt. So you will always use the boltgun. On my devastator sgt I have a bolt pistol, does that mean I fire what is actually on the model or can I fire the boltgun...if yes, what's the point in the bolt pistol?

If you shoot your Boltgun, you can't charge.

With firing your Bolt Pistol you may charge afterwards.

Ahh...right thanks guys! Might come in handy...but another question, do you have to fire what's actually on the model or can you use the wargear?

You can use any of your standard wargear as long as you didn't replace it with special wargear.

Don't forget that bolt pistols are also melee weapons so when coupled with a non-specialist weapon you get an extra close combat attack as well.

So a bolt pistol with a chain sword...standard loadout for assault marines, you would get an extra attack in CC? I have that loadout on a sgt though.

Yeah, don't be confused, lots of minis come with options in their wargear section that they don't have the bitz to be able to actually represent on the model itself. I can buy plasma guns and krak grenades for my guardsmen, you say?

Just use the codex entry.

As for the extra attack for close combat, I'd HIGHLY recommend buying a copy of the rulebook. A lot of people are buying Dark Vengeance as a cheap way to get bikes and cultists, and don't have much use for the extra rulebooks they have. I'd talk to friends or people at your FLGS, or check out ebay for a copy. The hardcover version of the rules is expensive. The small, softcover version is not.

Your one-stop website for batreps, articles, and assorted goodies about the men of Folera: Foleran First Imperial Archives. Read Dakka's favorite narrative battle report series The Hand of the King. Also, check out my commission work, and my terrain.

Abstract Principles of 40k: Why game imbalance and list tailoring is good, and why tournaments are an absurd farce.

Read "The Geomides Affair", now on sale! No bolter porn. Not another inquisitor story. A book written by a dakkanought for dakkanoughts!

In your squads, doing the chainsword tango

I model my GH with 3 arms, for true WYSIWYG. Bolt pistol, CCW, bolter.

Guess where the third arm is *wiggles eyebrows*

Heavy weapon troops can also fire their bolt pistols at full BS rather then snap firing the big gun when they move.

Awesome! That's going to help my devastators! When and if they move, I guess that's why the have that as there standard loadout, makes sense, at least they're retaliating and aren't completely un armed after they move.
