The US has quite alot of oil avaliable for drilling. I believe its actually enough to supply the needs of the US and allow for exportation, so its silly that we are "dependent" on middle eastern oil.
Most of our oil comes from Canada. We only get 10% of our oil from the middle east IIRC

Its an odd fact that most people don't know. In fact its funny if you listen to Romney's speeches. He only refers to "North American" energy indepedence. He does not say US. Its because he wants to include Canada.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

So the involvement of government in the solution is too broad a definition for 'government solution'. Huh.

By that "logic," the involvement of the private sector in all of the given examples makes them equally as much private sector solutions, if not more so.

Which was sort of the point of the post.

LOL

Another funny thing that I learned is that US oil production has increased in the past four years, and we are now exporting oil.

We are contractually obliged to buy oil from Canada for a few years at a time at a set price. When oil companies make the contract they agree to buy for X years at Y price. Companies are still in these contracts.

Once they expire, we will export less oil and start using more of our own supplies.
