Granted, you don't have to spout Chaos dogma to serve Chaos. That's the insidious bit of it, and I would be fairly sure that many pawns of the Ruinous Powers are unaware of who they actually serve. Just like the Emperor is revered under a thousand different names across the galaxy, I would assume the same goes for the Chaos Gods. Likely even more, since Chaos does not have an organisation such as the Ecclesiarchy, which would attempt to guide the faith of every single being.
On the other hand, the bit about Nurgle at least would contradict GW's fluff about the Chaos Orks who became pawns of Nurgle because they confused one of his altars with a temple for one of their own gods, basically beginning to worship Nurgle by pure accident and under a false name. Which would logically imply that they do not normally do this.

Yes the first Macharian Crusade book more or less deals with this. A planet was worshiping a deity called the "Angel of Fire" that wanted them to open up a "gateway". It was actually a Warp Portal and turned out that the Angel of Fire was a Lord of Change....

I'd imagine the end would be much as it is here.
Except some planets would turn you into food (Soylens viridiens).
Some would use you as compost.
Some would just let your corpse slowly decay.
I don't believe in souls - so one imaginary life-after death scenario is much the same as any other.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

I don't know how literal it was, but the old DE codex described human souls as going to the Emperor when they died... But, that could easily be either the religious zealots making it up, or simply fluff that's changed.
