So I have been working on a not-so vanilla marine army (due to the fact that I seem to own a lot of space marines but I have no knowledge of where I acquired them.)

I fell in love with the Tyrant Legion at first sight. I even played one a bit back in 5th ed with my Space Wolves proxying as Astral Claws(they were secretly Tiger Claws, so the fur was justified). Now with the HH books from Forgeworld coming out, I am excited to see what the future holds for the eighteen legions. Even without legion specific rules and units, the Legiones Astartes seems to be a pretty potent force.

So now I am left with a choice. Do I build a mighty heresy era legion? Or do I pay the Tyrant's Due?

*Note* I am not a competitive player, I am very much a hobbyist first as I tend to only play once a month at max.

If I went the Legiones Astartes route, I would probably do one of the lesser known legions like Iron Hands or possible Iron Warriors with some Mechanicum allies. When their rules come out, I could just add the fluff into an already existing army.

Me and my friends are doing a HH/GC campaign and its great fun. I'm running Sons of Horus using the DA codex and they're pretty fun

Man that is a hrad choice. The heresy era stuff is SOOO cool I have seen some of the rules for it and it seems awesome. I think the only draw back would be that the Legiones Astartes are meant to be used strictly against other space marine legion armies so that might make it kind of tough to get them on a table as a whole.

While I agree, I have a pretty good group of players I normally game with and they don't mind fighting armies out of IA. In fact, my Space Wolves are not completely built around Bran Redmaw and I have used a Tyrant Legion in 5th Ed.

I think the Legiones Astartes would be a cool choice, but I might just wait until a legion that appeals to me comes out. As of right now, the four traitor legions are somewhat meh to me.
