Subject: Brotherhood Champion as IC or just Character?

A question came up during discussion of the GK Brotherhood Champion. In the 6th ed Reference Chart, it lists the Brotherhood Champion as a Character, along with many other previously non IC models. In fact, the entire Reference Chart does not list any IC models from any army. So does this mean that the Brotherhood Champion is no longer an IC but a standard Character? If so, it means we have an HQ option that is no longer able to join any other squads. FAQ doesn't mention anything of this, and I can't find anything in the Rulebook stating that we can use model rules from the Codex over the Rulebook unless it's specifically listed, and it's not for the Brotherhood Champion.
Can anyone find anything that I can point to if this comes up again?

An IC is just a Character that can join other units, as noted in the IC rules.
If the Brotherhood Champion has the IC rule, then he is an IC.

If he's listed as an IC in the codex than he's an IC in 6th right, right

Actually, it's In( ch) in the back of 6th ed, where none of the IC are listed. Hence, the original question.

Yes, I realize he has the IC rule in the codex. But he is listed as In(ch) in the Reference Chart of the new main rulebook where NO IC UNITS are listed.
So logic would assume that if he's listed there, he's no longer IC, right? That's what Im trying to determine.

Actually no, the opposite of that would be logic.
Pg 7 Bottom right hand side last paragraph talks about conflicts

The reference in the 6th edition rulebook only specifies the model type. The "(ch)" only signifies that the model is a character as per the new character rules. The status of a model as an Independent Character is based on having the Independent Character special rule. Thus, the reference need not indicate IC status for any character, as it is covered in the characters' special rules. In fact, it isn't even a conflict. A Brotherhood Champion (along with all the other ICs shown in the back of the 6th ed book) has the type: Infantry (character). He also has the Independent Character special rule as shown in the GK codex, which means that he gains additional rules above and beyond those conferred to a normal character.

Independent Character is a special rule, not a unit type. Thus it is not listed in the back of the rulebook. Although if you have the IC rule you are automatically a character.

That's the point . IC is a special rule. As In( Ch) is a unit type.
IC can be found in your army codex.
