Hmm this seems interesting

Urban War is going to have a 6mm version of the game called Age of Tyrants

Though maybe its me but seems a bit "too soon" to have an entirely new line doesn't it? Didn't they just started remaking Urban War just a few months or a year ago?

Anyways have at it

Hi folks,
Welcome to the Age of Tyrants Facebook page.
A bit of background; the game is set in the Urban War universe within the Draconis Alba Galaxy, however it is set in the past in the period called the Age of Tyrants. In this period it is the Homeworld factions of Viridians, Junkers, VASA and Syntha that vie for colonies in Panhumanic space. The Koralon as yet have not been encountered.
The game has a planned release date of April 2013. From now onwards we will be previewing artwork, miniatures, painting articles, terrian buidling as well as fiction and details on the game.
We hope you enjoy

Age of Tyrants is designed by John Robertson, Mark Brendan, Wayne England, Ben Skinner and Rene Van de Moosdijk supported by James Scott Robertson and Jarrod Cornforth.

Each faction in Age of Tyrants will have infantry, artillery, apcs and of course tanks!
Here is the very first concept by Wayne for a Viridian MBT- this was sketched out after a short conversation with John, keeping things very loose to start with while trying to create a feel for the look, not only for the faction but also the game. More concepts of the tank will follow to allow you to see the progression of the concept to its final form.

Hey all, just a word on the game design. We're attempting something a bit new with it in terms gameplay. So, Age of Tyrants is based on a core concept of combined arms warfare. This means you'll activate a number of units (based on a leadership stat) to perform a combined order, for example assault an enemy position or suppress an area, and your opponent can respond to offensive orders with their their own counter attacks, allowing fights to develop. What can be activated to carry out the order is dependent on the rank of the unit issuing the order, so sergeants can only use bases from their squad, captains can issue orders to any bases from within the same company, and battlefield HQs can issue orders to any base on the battlefield. So as you can see we've got a chain of command mechanic, and we can do battles of varying scale, from squad to squad skirmishes up to full, company level engagements

Hell yes.

Highly interested!

Renders look pretty sweet so far, glad they've made the switch to digital sculpting.

He does have the usual Urban War website, http://www.urbanwarthegame.com/news.php

But it just reuses the facebook contents. No actual Age of Tyrants section yet

Nice designs, but I don't care for the assymetry of the first sketch.

Hmmm.. as someone who wants to get into Epic40k but can't find a player to go against, this seems good.

Although, this has to play better than Epic40k.

Not sure on all the designs. They are interesting, but a bit overkill with the turrets. I'm really loving the blocky designs for the first bunch of pics posted here.

I also love the infantry. This would be something I'd pick up to paint a neat little force of. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of it.

I will definitely get the infantry, but use my GHQ micro armor with them. (1/48 German Marders and Leopard 2's are the armor support for my Urban War/Metropolis 28mm Viridians, so I will definitely continue the tradition in 6mm)

This definitely. The sketches are provoig many memories of when we used to see 40k and Epic developments drawn like this.

Slightly unrelated question:

How do the 28mm miniatures match up wtih GW figures?

Perfectly. I have several platoons of Urban War Viridians w/ support weapons teams. Here's a TMP link with some other manufacturers

I can take some pics for you when I get home tonight if you're interested.

I would appreciate that Judgedoug. Looking at some of the mini's I'm seeing quite a few that might be fun to paint but I'd like some kind of use for them afterward

They are great to use as either Imperial Guard or as Imperial Guard Stormtroopers. I use them as near-future Germans (I also use Pig Iron troops as near-future Russians and Copplestone troops as near-future UN forces)

I'll take some pics for you tonight, I have some DV Space Marines and Eldar Dire Avengers I can use as comparison.

They just updated the rules it seems. They're also flying a banner for an upcoming KS campaign. Could be interesting

EDIT: Before anyone slams me saying those were drafted 2 months ago, notice that on the right, the new rules were updated today, 9/20/2015

6mm is a great scale for massive army battles.

6mm is the scale where things like super-heavy tanks, walkers, Titans, etc. make sense - certainly not 28mm!

Looking forward to this one, though I feel that trying to find opponents will be a challenge for a while...

It might be easier to get people in via Void or the Urban Mammoth 28mm games. They can go skirmish, so low buy in (especially Void 1.1) then after a few people are interested in the setting pull towards the mass combat game.

The rules for the original Void are available for free along with a whole bunch of other material. http://www.scotiagrendel.com/Products/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=59_69&zenid=620d1fd81abe560e5d5f946d74f8c265

The Urban Mammoth site has what are probably more up to date and relevant background pdfs and a load of other game aides, scenarios, and quickstart rules for free. http://www.urbanwarthegame.com/support-downloads-english.php
