I would like to find a game that deals with WWIII and miniatures to go with it. I'm not particularly fond of 15/20mm gaming but if its a good system i will still look into it. So far all I've found is the force on force supplement cold war gone hot but I've never used the force on force system so if someone could enlighten me about it a little that would be helpful.

Excellent set of rules. Very fluid turns and just becuase you are Russians does not mean you stand no chance in the game. The biggest thing about it is that it takes the wornout I-GO U-GO turns and trashes them completely with chances for overwatch fire and a true oppurtunity fire as well. Elhiem does great 20mm and is ever expanding the Cold War and Empress, Eureka and the Assault Ggroup allow you to play an ultramodern cold war.
There is also micro armor 6mm and Pico armor 3mm for which you could use either Modern Spearhead or Cold War Commander ( the rules we use with Pico armor 3mm) as it really lets you see the horde of soviet tanks bearing down on you.

Force on force is based on an initiative system where even when one side "wins" the initiative roll it just does not mean they shoot and move all their models in one swoop. The force that lost initiative still has chances to interrupt the winner to fire before him or simply move out of the way. Over watch fire is also included and is as deadly as it should be. This allows for a very fluid game turn where losing a single roll does not cause you to have a unit horribly miss placed. The other big thing is that in force on force your troops when hit just do not die. They can be lightly wounded and still fight or even seriously wounded which is very bad as you have to assign someone to carry him if you want to move.
40k and bolt action are ugo-igo games meaning someone always gets the first turn will move first and will shoot first allowing for little to no ability to interfere during your opponents turn.
Both game types have their merits and flaws but what force on force has over the other rules in my opinion is flexibility of how a turn evolves.

^ That, and gear doesn't matter as much. In that it doesn't matter if your guy has an AK or M4, its more based around how well trained and good you unit is.

Cold war gone hot is expensive though, you need to buy force on force for the core rules..Aside from that there is cold war commander for small scale stuff and i think Hind Commander (is that the name?) involves this sort of thing in a post cold war setting.

Core rule book is around $30 and and Cold war gone hot is roughly $15. (Depending on where you buy it though)

Force on force and col war commander are entirely different games though. FoF is a skirmish level game where CWC is a battalion level or even a regimental scale. Really depends what you are looking to do.
I actually think FoF is quite affordable. $45-50 for a main rule box and expansion is not that bad. It is less than equivalent rule sets plus expansions. The other thing is at 15mm it is super affordable and even 20mm is easily affordable.

I should point out that FoF is a model/scale free rule set. In that you can use models from 15mm- roughly up to 1/35 scale. So you could use 20mm models, plastic green army men, or even regular military model kits from a model shop.

That is an excellent point Makarov. Many games are slaved to one scale and it is hard to scale the rules up or down without affecting game play.

Kinda funny you mention plastic green army men. My first few games of FoF with my buddy was played using our tan and green army men from a while back. Don't think he's kidding when he says that you can do that, trust me ANY model kit will work with it. Honestly, if you had full size mannequins and a full size battle field you could do it with that (of course, scaling up the or down the distances depending on the models. I think the distances were written with 20mm in mind, but those ranges will work with anything 15mm to 28mm comfortably. Once you start getting really big (like, 1/35th) or really small (like, 6mm or 3mm) than it will take some edits.
EDIT: Oh crap, just noticed the date from November.....sorry about that...
