A few months ago, I did a small commission for someone, painted a couple of Orks for him in exchange for a custom airbrushed t-shirt. As soon as I got the Orks I painted them up, they looked good, was quite a bit of work. Now, usually I wouln't have posted them before the t-shirt was at least on its way to me and I had the tracking number. But everyone was praising this guy, great service they said (he was selling custom shirts in the swap shop) so I just posted the orks. After a while he uploaded pictures of the shirt I had commissioned him to do, it looked great, and he said he'd post it that week. So I waited 3 weeks (it takes a while for a package to cross the big pond), but after a while I was getting impatient and I messaged him again. asking about the shirt. He said he had totally forgotten about that and he was sorry, he'd send it to me asap. Another three weeks, still no shirt, and this guy has disappeared. Tried e-mailing him, no response....

So what should I do? I don't think he's trying to scam me, because he DID paint that shirt just like I asked him to do it, he just didn't send it. The last thing I heard of him was something about some "personal problems" before he disappeared.

btw he's known as zariart here on dakka

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)

I'd suggest posting a transaction report in the swap shop so at least other people can know to try to avoid him, as far as what you can do, since (correct me if i'm wrong) no money exchanged hands I'd gather your options are pretty limited. Sounds like you're just going to have to eat it on this one.

But I would suggest a transaction report so others know, it also might be enough to get him to come back from the dead

Have you tried phoning him? His phone's listed on his website. Not ideal, with time difference and cost, but still, might help.

I think you should write a nice email hoping his problems work out and saying that you would like the promised shirt when he can manage it.

I don't think there is much else you can do anyway.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

@ironicsilence: well, there is no risk of others having the same problem, because he's just disappeared. Also, I think he isn't doing this on purpose, because he did actually paint that shirt for me.
@htj: Good idea, might consider it, but it's expensive....
@Killkrazy: I've done that already... twice. To no avail....

Hmm, perhaps call him, and leave a message, see what happens. That seems to be the best method, perhaps the guys computer died, ect. Phones die, but people actually replace them due to their importance of functionality these days.

well I know I was having some stress a few weeks (month or 2 now I think) ago and I had to cancel a huge army commission I was doing.... still have all the same stress just on medication now

so I'd call leave a short and to the point message and maybe a "sorry if this is a bad time but I'd just like to know for sure" sorta thing at the end.

hope that help that help ;P

hey guys
he just wrote me an email. He says his wife has had an emergency surgery and that he's been sick too....
The shirt will be on its way soon.
Now I feel a bit bad about complaining about him.... but I'm glad everything has sorted itself out.
