As in, can they be one of the models that takes the wound instead of the Character? Yes.

"Does the actual models placement matter?" is the underlying question

What model are you talkung about?

The BRB erratats the LOS! rule so ONLY the closest model can take the wound for the character. As long as the fenrisian wolf is the closest model, it can take the wound on behalf of the character

Does the character have to be attached to a squad to have LOS enabled?

Thought so, just seems strange to have to be within 6inches but I guess that would matter if there was a blob with a lot of models removed. thanks

Wolves purchased as wargear need to be within 2" but LOS! is the closest model within 6" (in the same unit).

It was 6" because before they FAQ ed it you could allocate the wounds to any model within the 6" radius with the last FAQ it needs to be the closest model in the unit which by coherency will be between 2" & 4" iirc (4" for bikes/beasts/and all that non-infantry stuff)

4" is ONLY for vehicle squadrons

With enough LOS! rolls past it's entirely possible for the closest model to not be in coherence.

In the grim darkness of the far future something will shoot your dog.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Could you provide the "it" reference. I looked at the wargear entry and it doesn't say...

Please excuse my ignorance if this is common knowledge, I just want to read it. Can't find it...

Q: Can an Independent Character who has taken Fenrisian Wolves as
wargear join another unit as if he were on his own? (p31)
A: Yes – in fact you could potentially have a unit that included
several Independent Characters, all of whom have Fenrisian
Wolves, though each set of Fenrisian Wolves must still remain
within 2" of their Independent Character master.
