Military secrets are secret for a reason...

Not always. The most obvious example is the Pentagon Papers which, among other things:
Wikipedia wrote:Nixon Solicitor General Erwin N. Griswold later called the Papers an example of "massive overclassification" with "no trace of a threat to the national security". The Papers' publication had little or no effect on the ongoing war because they dealt with documents written years before publication.

Wait, since when does half pay affect your BAH?

Half pay aint too bad, but the red flags on their records might hold em down. Career enlistment may not be a viable option for them if it does. Though, PMCs will pay dumb amounts of cash for their specialties if they are forced out.

It doesn't. Or your jump pay, sea pay, career continuation pay, hostile fire pay, imminent danger pay, dive pay, or any of the other cash and prizes the NSW dudes get. Plus there is whatever the fee from EA was, which I'm sure covers the spread.

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.

What ticks me off, is that a gak game from the MoH series gets help and released, but Six Days in Fallujah, which was assisted by Marines (who got approval) from 3/1 (3rd Battalion, 1st Marines) with the goal of producing a faithful to reality modern shooter, that would depict Operation Phantom Fury from the eyes of a Marine who was actually boots on the ground. This gak gets made but that gets stuck in development hell because publishers don't have the guts.

All said the punishment's not surprising and I doubt it's going to have any effect on the career of these SEALs.

I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn

People don't want shooters that are faithful to reality. And the backlash from releasing such a "realistic" game would be enormous, I mean look at the flak that the 2010 MoH got simply for making the focus on a current war we're involved in.

CoD and Battlefield, which are often lauded for its "realism" disagrees with you.

CoD and Battlefield have the same relationship with the reality of military conflict that Mil Sim Airsoft does.

CoD and Battlefield cannot be used in the same sentence as realism....everyone knows they arent realistic or even close to being so.

Then why do I keep hearing them being called realistic? Is it irony?

Ignorance. Ignorance and Marketing. They both play a role, feel free to take your pick of which one is larger.

Not sure which one of the first shooter that got hung up for their version of OPFOR was insurgents shooting americans. Few vids I saw of it thy were pretty close to matching the insurgents and what they would say when they get an "american"

You're thinking of Medal of Honor. Incidentally, it was a poor game for reasons unrelated to setting. There were a great deal of scripted scenes where your AI squadmates failed to trigger sequences that were required for the plot (like opening a door, or giving you a boost - there were artificial ways to make it not look like the rail shooter it was). When these events failed to trigger, I found the only way to get them back on script was to shoot them in the legs. Way to keep the immersion, guys.
