Got a quick question about deep striking space marine units in conjunction with wargear.

I've got drop pods and scout bikers with locater beacons, and scouts and tactical marines with teleport homers. As far as i can see they both do the same job. So what's the difference? Also can all space marines in power and terminator armour deep strike?

Thanks for your help!

Mick.

Normal Space Marines don't have the Deep Strike rule - they are given this rule by either Terminator Armour or Jump Packs, or by being transported in a vehicle which can Deep Strike.

Teleport homers only work with teleporting troops - which, in the SM codex, are only Terminators.

Locator Beacons work with any unit arriving from Deep Strike, whatever method they use to do it.

Might be wrong, but I thought Gate of Infinity teleported as well

Teleport Homer specifically states Terminators.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

So gate works with locator beacons?

Yes Gate would work with both Locator Beacons AND Teleport Homers, AND Servo Skulls ( the Grey Knight ones).

Teleport homers require you to be teleporting, which Gate isnt

And requires them to be Terminators.

How is "Gate" not teleporting? Is there a rule that defines what "teleporting" is? Last I checked, teleporting means to move from one place to another without using any form of physical conveyance, and "Gate" fits that common definition quite well.

Nowhere in the gate description does it mention the unit is Teleporting, just that they get to Deepstrike.
So how is "Gate" teleporting?
Terminators can "Teleport" which allows them to use Deepstrike even when the mission doesn't allow it.
Teleport Homers only work with Terminators that are Teleporting.

Fluff-wise you could argue that Gate is teleporting, but it's rules don't say that.

Try readingteh description for how terminators arrive - there is your definition, in game, of teleporting.

Try reading the description on how Gate of Infinity works (I'll give you a hint, Gate makes a passage through the warp). Guess how teleportion works in 40k? I'll give you a hint: by moving through a passage in the warp. Same descriptors.

Again, that's fluff and background. Not rules.
Teleporting Terminators, and Teleport homers are actual rules.
Rules-wise Gate is NOT teleporting. It is Deepstriking.

Not for everyone - necrons, for example.

Note how it states that Termies Teleport? That means they teleport. Notice how no mention is made of Teleport within the Gate rules? That means you dont teleport.
