Subject: Remora Drone Question
|
 |
Freaky Flayed One
|
First let me say I know this is a FW model and I know concessions have to be made with those.
So the Remora Drones are flyers and are armed as follows:
2 LB Burst Cannons (36", S5 AP5 Heavy 3)
Networked Markerlight
2 Seeker Missiles
Targetting Array
Blacksun Filter
My questions are
1. If the Networked Markerlight off the Remora hits a flyer, can it then Fire its own Seeker Missile at that flyer at BS5, since the remora has skyfire?
2. Can a different Markerlight (Say from a Pathfinder) fire one of the Remora's Seeker Missiles at BS 5 at a flyer?
3. Can the Remora's Markerlight be used to Fire a Seeker Missile off say a Hammerhead at a flyer at BS 5?
I dont want to rehash the thread of markerlights vs Flyers. I would just like specific thoughts in regards to the Remora being a flyer vs a Flyer. Thanks

1. - Yes, the model has skyfire and so do all it's weapons. 2. - Yes, the model firing the weapon (seeker) has skyfire. 3. - No, the model firing the weapon (seeker) doesn't have skyfire.

Seeker missiles don't require Skyfire. The FAQ states that snap shots are resolved at BS5. So any marker lights on a flyer will allow a seeker missile to hit on a 2+.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."
"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

1-3 are not clear cut there are people that will argue about exactly what is firing the seeker, and this will lead back to the seeker/snapfire arguement. If you read the Faq to say that seekers over ride the BS1 with BS5, which is my read on the FAQ, then everything is a yes. Other wise you get the following questions:
If the seeker fires it's self, then it does not have the Skyfire rule.
if the marklight fires the seeker, it does not have sky fire.
if the unit firing the markerlight fires the seeker, does it have skyfire.
if the vehicle fires the seeker, does the vehicle have sky fire.
A lot of this is simply that the original Seeker rules were never well written. I think in most cases thought the Remora will get no argument about firing it's own seekers except for the TFG. As to the other two check your tournament and local gaming group. I know some of the options I listed seem stupid, but I have seen every one of those positions argued for who fires the seeker.

Before you totally derail this thread check the marklight vs Flyer threads, there is still arguments on this one which is why he is asking specifically about the Remora.

The seeker is shot at BS5 but the snapshot is resolved at BS1.

The thread got closed days ago and the only argument against the seeker missiles was the claim that there is a difference between "resolved as" and "fired as"
Regardless of how the seeker is fired, the FAQ gives clear guidance that firing it as a snap fire hits on a 2+.

As a Tau player i play it safe and don't do that, better have fun than be a TFG.
PS: Personal twin linked weapons flyer kill ratio – 9/11.

The FAQ is for the vehicle's BS being reduced, the vehicle's BS is still normal in this case.

Since the codex specifically that a markerlight "allows a vehicle to fire a seeker missile" that implies it is in fact fired by the vehicle (although fluff says otherwise). As such, I would say that seekers from the Remora (or any Tau Flyer for that matter) would be able to choose to use the Skyfire rule, and thus would be able to hit Flyers at an assumed BS5. Based on that I would say
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. No

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

The question is oddly worded, but the answer specifically gives the answer that when firing a snap shot the seeker hits on a 2+.
That's all that needs to be looked at.
1.) how does a shot hit a flyer?
-as a snap shot.
2.)roll to hit, how is it resolved?
- as a snap shot.
3.) I got a three, is this ok?
-BRB says that a 6 is required.
4.) is there an applicable FAQ?
-Yes. Snap shots hit on a 2+.
Verdict: Missile hits.

I'm just going to say this now. Let's not get back into whether or not Seeker MIssiles on non-Flyers are affected by Hard to Hit. Let's only focus on the first two questions.

The op's third question brought it back to light.
And I think the OP deserves a fair answer that doesn't blatantly ignore or an FAQ.
