Hey all,

There's a mini WHFB tournament at my FLGS in a few weeks. However, as you can see, the points limit is only 750, a limit which I'm not so experienced. So, I've come to Dakka for some advice from the other veteran-DE players that I know are lurking somewhere around here, and, of course, anyone else who dares impede my judgement has some advice.

Even though it's my FLGS, I can't really offer much insight on what the metagame is like there, since 40k is the overwhelmingly popular choice, so that's pretty much all we play. I do know that there's another Dark Elf player (and games against him are always fantastic) and a WoC player knocking around, but this chap hasn't been in for a while. So yes, I could face anything, I guess. Also, most people know I'm a nice guy there, so being a bit harsh in my list is fine, even though it's a relatively friendly tournament scene

Anyway, on with the list:

Heroes

Sorceress (150)
Level 2, Tome of Furion, The Best Lore (Shadow )

Just here to be my General, and toss some buffs and hexes around to aid my units. Important

Core

Crossbowmen x13 (130)
(Sorceress goes here)

Crossbowmen x10 (100)

Core and shooting power. The volume of shots, helped by Shadow Magic, should be able to damage a lot of things

Special

Black Guard x20 (267)
Musician

My main combat block, chosen over my beloved corsair horde for being cheaper. Their job is to catch anything that makes it through the hail of crossbow fire and shred it to pieces, or to advance forward if (depending on my opponent's army), and shred stuff up there

Shades x6 (102)
AHWs

So I figured the rest of my army could be beaten up pretty badly by superior shooting armies, such as Empire and Dwarves, so these guys are to take out missile troops, or at least offer a distraction

TOTAL: 749

-------

So, there's the list, all comments and criticism appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I'd possibly remove the shades since at 750 dark elves have a very unique advantage. They can field a hydra for only 175. Since the faq gave beastmaster scourges an additionall attack, the model is even better than it was before. Sure if you encounter a cannon ball or some flamming attacks it can be rough, however, at this point range, a hydra is capable of killing almost any regiment it encounters. Especially if you engage with the breath attack and don't roll terribly.

I wouldn't over look spearmen at this point range either. Sure repeater xbows are great cause of the armour peircing but if you encounter WoC or Bretonnia the arrows will bounce off. You will need some no doubt but I wouldnt suggest having them be 30% of your army. You don't have a lot to work with so every point has to count. if anything you could always probably trim down the black guard to 15 even though they are amazing. But they still get shot down pretty easily.

10k+ High Elf
6.5k Dwarf
7k Original Chaos Dwarf (not the crappy forge world)
6k Bretonnia
7k Wood Elf
6k Dark Elf
8k Tomb Kings
5k Beastmen
5k Lizardmen
7k Daemons of Chaos (roughly 2.5k all but Tzeentch, I find them useless in 8th other than flamers and heralds)
5.5k Empire

Any comp? If not go borrow a mates skaven army and field 200 slaves just for lols (and to remind folk that uncomped GW games do not work in a tournament setting) But on to the DEs running a hydra is not a bad idea at such a small points value (I beleive they are free points at a proper points level tho)

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I take your point about the Hydra, but I'm reluctant to drop the shades, or I'll be at a massive disadvantage against shooty armies.

Shades are the scariest thing in the DE book IMO, So I completely understand your reasoning. When I play against a shade heavy DE army I basically have to put it all on the edge of the board and spend the first 2 turns of the game dealing with ninja elves or start loosing units as my units get withered and deleted (I play HEs so loosing a unit of 30 SMs really hurts)
