About to start painting some Necrons and was wondering how you guys would think this would look: I'm wanting to spray em with Tamiya Gun Metal, which is a dark grey with silver flake, then do the shoulders/armor bits with Tamiya Mica red (darker red with metal flake). Then, do a bright green emanating from inside their rib cages to match the Gauss flayers, as well as the eyes. Think that would turn out ok, without looking too damn Christmas-y? My other question is, how would I pull this off with vehicles? Main parts would be the gunmetal, the pieces like the "shell" on the middle on a Doom Scythe or the "wings" off the backbone of a CCB would be red. But could I get away with the glow lines and edges being bright green?

If the red is really dark and metallic and the green really bright and non metallic I don't see it being to Christmas like, I would say paint up a test model to see if you like the scheme.

yeah painting up a test model is always a good way to start before painting whole batches and finding out you dont like it...

Test model is probably your best bet!

Yep, test model is always a great idea!
If you go towards a blue green it will look great and not resemble evil Christmas elves.

Thanks all. Yeah, it seems with the bright green I should be fine. A couple test models are in the works.

Tamiya's bottle paints are acrylic, but their sprays are lacquers.

How about a darker green - sort of Brunswick or British Racing Green (not sure what the equivalent GW, Vallejo or Tamiya paint would be), and a more stark blood red colour. I'm thinking more along the lines of gun-metal skeleton, the dark greeny-black shoulder plates and a kind of blood red border line on the shoulders. On a vehicle you could still go with your main gunmetal body, but have a dark green/black carapace, and red bordering. I think those two colours would still lend themselves to having bright lime green emanating from eyes, Gauss guns and rib-cage - even just as a glow. Of course gold could still be added in as ornamentation.

Dark Angels use red and green without looking Christmassy!

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"
