Hi Guys

Just picked up some Tyranids today that were pretty cheap, so i have decided to throw a basic list together.
I have NEVER played Tyranids before (I'm a Necron player) so not entirely sure of there overall tactics but the basic list i have made seems to work out in my head

here it is:

HQ:

Hive Tyrant (Wings, Acid Blood & T/L Devourer and Brainleech Worms)

Troops:
Termagant Brood 15 (Devourer)
Termagant Brood 15 (Devourer)
Tervigon (Cluster spines, Catalyst & Scything talons)
Tervigon (Cluster spines, Catalyst & Scything talons)
Warrior Brood 5 (2 Barb Strangler & 3 Venom Cannon)

Heavy Support:
Carnifex Brood 2 (Heavy Venom Cannons)

C&C would be more then welcomed!

Tyrant - acid blood not worth it.

Warriors can only take 1 BS per brood.

HVC is not the greatest weapon on a carnifex - get some devourers like the tyrant.

Agree with ruminator:

Acid blood is pretty good if your a monster in close combat and have 6 wounds, but the tyrant should be in the air, and doesnt have enough wounds to play with. Also bear in mind you get to take 2 powers for free

With the single special weapon for warriors, it might be best to keep them at just 3 strong, with the venom cannon (for light tanks), or Barbed strangler (infantry)

With the termegants i'd personally drop them to 10 men, and give them a spore pod.

Tervigons are good, they also come with the power Dominion, so don't forget to make 2 rolls on the biomancy chart!

And as suggested, swap the heavy venom cannons on your fex's for devourers. Or as i often run, a plain fex in a pod. when that monster lands in your backfield, you get scared.

Happy devouring!

You're ignoring one, if not the best, FOC slot available in Nids codex.

The Elite choices are, resuming, the force multipliers of your list.

If you're building a shooty based list (as I will suggest) do not ignore Hive Guards and Zoanthropes for high ST shoots and psychic bonuses.

If you're instead thinking about an assault based list than don't ignore Ymgarls (one of the only 2 units in the whole game that may assault immediately after the enter in game).

Besides, your spending a lot of pts on Warriors as troop. Unfortunately, even if with 3W each they're still T4 and with a very average armor save. Use these pts for some Hive Guards is my advice, especially in a list like yours.

Last thing, Devilgants (termagants with devourers) are very good and hugely effective in the right circumstances. They're also hugely pricy however. Consider to take 2 basic 10x Termagants unit just to unlock Tervigons as troops and then invest precious pts again on Hive Guards, Zoanthopes and why not even Biovores that with their Large Blast may scare a lot of infantry adversary selections.

Just in example:
HQ - Tyrant - 2x TL Devourers - Wings. 260
EL - 2x Hive Guards. 100
EL - 2x Hive Guards. 100
TR - Tervigon - Cluster Spines - Catalyst - Toxin Sacs. 185
TR - Tervigon - Cluster Spines - Catalyst - Toxin Sacs. 185
TR - 10x Termagants. 50
TR - 10x Termagants. 50
HV - 2x Carnifex - 2x TL Devourers each. 380
HV - 2x Biovores. 90
HV - 2x Biovores. 90

This is 1490 pts. With the lasts 10 pts you'll may add Scything Talons on Tervigons (not the best option), Frag Spines on Carnifexes to easy assaults on terrains at a nice Init. 4 or even Adrenal Glands on the Flyrant to help vs AV14 vehicles in assault.

Every molecule will be useful

Good suggestions, but why AG on a tyrant? He has smash attacks at S10 AP2. The last 10 pts would be better on AG on your tervigon as the extra Strength on termagaunts can glance vehicles to death on the charge.

Whatyou talkin 'bout Willis?

EDIT: oh now I see it, Toban's post. There is no reason to take AG on tyrant, xept if you roll Iron Arm AND a D3 on 3, which you have no idea knowing about before the game starts

You guys are right.

This is an old-5th ed. add that I where used to app on my flyrants, looking at ST7 vs AV14 and the like.

Obviously, as you pointed out, with the smash attacks this isn't a logical upgrade anymore.

Hey everyone, and thank you for the great feedback it has given me a hell of a lot to think about.
So my new list still contradicts some of the feedback iv received:
1) Yes i still have my 5 man Warrior squad, they are my favorite mini in the game, and the opinions of people i play with they are a very strong squad to have
2) My lone Carnifex still has his Heavy venom cannon, this is mainly trying to keep my paranoia in check for when i got against some of my mates who just love to keep a nice distance with their tanks....dam IG

So here is the list:

HQ:
Hive Tyrant (Wings, Scything Talons & T/L Devourer)

ELITES:

Hive Guard Brood x2
Hive Guard Brood x2

TROOPS:

Termagant Brood x12
Termagant Brood x12
Tervigon (Cluster Spines & Catalyst)
Tervigon (Cluster Spines & Catalyst)
Warrior Brood x5 (Barb Strangler & Mycetic Spore)

HEAVY SUPPORT:
Carnifex Brood x1 (Heavy Venom Cannon)
Carnifex Brood x1 (Mycetic Spore)
