Subject: Why are their different coloured regiments from the same world?

Just wondering, when playing the dawn of war games, I've noticed that there are multiple cadian armies you can play with different color schemes. Why would the same world have so many different schemes for one planet? Any Fluff reason for this, or is it just for the video games?
I could probably think of the reason being that different regiments are being sent to specific combat zones to start with, so there's that.

I've never played DoW, but I'd hazard a guess that the different colours are simply different camouflage patterns

Those are all camo schemes found in the 3rd edition Guard codex.
The answer differs from Regiment to Regiment.
Some simply use the default Green armor and brown uniform 24/7, some change depending on the war zone, and some simply have unique uniforms to help make them stand out (Regimental pride)
For example, im fairly sure the Cadian Regiment known as the "Firedrakes" (the guys in all red) have that uniform damn near 24/7.
The game doesnt want you to be forced to say "if you are Cadian you NEED to look like this," they want you to be unique and make your own fluff which includes things like prefered camo Automatically Appended Next Post: Why would the same world have so many different schemes for one planet? Lets put it this way, the US Marines and US Army wear different camo and they are from the same country. So ya there are plenty of possible fluff reasons, you just need to come up with your own (in this example, they are different branches of service

This, take 122'nd Cadian for example.
They have Urban and Winter outfit, that is why they have two colors.

It would be stranger if every regiment from a world would use the same camo.

Haha. The Army and Marines have different camo because the Marines are dicks and trademarked their scheme (though kinda silly since they are both US government agencies and as such both "own" the trademark). The Army has its useless ACU scheme because it is run by idiots and surely some palms got greased in that fiasco.

Multi-cam happens now! Sometimes. And I love my ACU. It lets me hide in gravel pits, really big gravel pits, pitch black caves, grandma's couch....
And on topic, for one of the official answers, the Munitorium Handbook part of the Infantryman's Handbook (p. 15) mentions this about the Cadian 91st:
"While many of the more exotic regiments of the Imperial Guard, such as the Catachans, may sport unusual and atypical garb, the Cadian regiments favor hard wearing simple fabrics and functional armor. Though even on Cadia, no two regiments are exactly alike, as the unreliability of civilian transports often means means there is a surplus of one cloth for uniforms over another."
It justifies that for varying colors and patterns within regions and planets, at least on Cadia.
