Subject: 1000pts Vanilla Marines, but looking for expansion

Hello all,
Right now I have almost exactly 1000pts in Space Marines, and I'm looking to expand some more.
First, it's worth noting that this list has been put together from AoBR, and then buying the rest of the pieces, one at a time. That's why I have a Space Marine Captain and such. I will eventually probably be getting a librarian (I think this is the right choice)? As I hear from everyone that they are better, but, atm, I'm just looking to get my point value buffed. So, here is my 1000 pt. list
Created with BattleScribe
It's taken from BattleScribe, obviously, so excuse the formatting.
My big question is... where do I go from here? I want to be able to have an overall FLEXIBLE army. Something that will do okay in a competitive sense, but will also have some options for playing causal games. In order, here is what I THINK I should be buying next, please, all suggestions are very helpful.
1. Scouts (I'm picking these up for 13.50 for a squad, so this seems like a no brainer, if anything, just for having the unit if I want to play around with them).
2. Land Raider
3. Predator (another one for long range support)
After this, I'm kind of at a loss. Should I pick up another tactical squad? I hear that in 6th, objective based games are king. What about another squad of termines? I love terminators. Should I pick up two rhinos for transport for the squads? Your opinions would be great, as I want to keep some flexibility, but also get as many points as I can for my money.
Thanks!

Land Speeder Storm is gak. Get rid of it.
If you want to play with Scouts, get sniper dudes with ML and a Sergeant Telion with camo cloaks for everyone. Then get an ADL pack with quad gun to have Telion control the quad gun. This will make opponents rage as quad gun is a 4-shot twin-linked autocannon and with Telion's BS6, you're never going to miss those 4 shots while you hide behind the ADL with 2+ cover save. Stick them on an objective and watch them not die. Ever.

That's a very interesting strategy! So I should definitely go with the scouts that have the sniper rifles? The way I understand the boxing there are two different boxes. One of them comes with scouts that have various bolters, heavy bolters, and pistols, the other comes with scouts that have sniper rifles. Is this correct? Would this box http://www.vendio.com/stores/Discount_Games_Store/item/space-marine/warhammer-40k-space-marine-sco/lid=27102236 have sniper rifles for the scouts?
Also, is Sergeant Telion worth the points? Is it okay to have him in my list AND the captain?
One last thing. I'm very new, so I'm just curious, why exactly is the land speeder crap? It seems okay for the point value. Thanks for your suggestion. Automatically Appended Next Post: To elucidate... I guess I don't have a Land Speeder storm, I'm sorry. I have a regular Land Speeder. I believe I've attached a flamer to it. Here is a link to what I have.

I would be referring to the latter box you mentioned with the sniper rifles.
As for Telion, he's pricey in points cost but my personal opinion is that he pays for himself. The setup of Telion + 3 Snipers + ML + ADL and quad gun will be 250 points in total. Also, it's totally all right to have him and the Captain. Telion is a special character who replaces the Scout Sergeant.
Also, Battlescribe probably derped. Land Speeder Storm refers to to the land speeder that transports scouts. It's absolute gak. If you're referring to the regular land speeder with heavy flamer it's a really cheap harassing fast attack option.
Additionally, for your HQ option, Captain is pretty bad. Go and get a terminator librarian, give him Gate of Infinity or something else. Attach him to your termie squad and watch your opponent sh** bricks as you deepstrike with impunity around the board.
edit: Also, put your predator behind the ADL and it gets a cover save.

If you like the storm, it can be made to work. Two options are fill it with bolters and use it for drive-by shootings, or CC scouts for assaults. Shotguns are a midpoint between the two. Defiantly trick out the sarge, he will be doing a lot of the heavy lifting for the squad.
Naked captains are our worst HQ. With war gear, they are flexible and do almost anything. With a BP and chainsword, they are mediocre at best.
Librarians are a good general use HQ. Chaplains shine at the front of assault squads. MotF work well for shoring up a gun line. Pick one that calls to you and run with him. But you need a new HQ.
Not a big fan of that pred configuration. I think auto/las is a much better load. Getting another one is not a bad call.
I would not get a land raider until later. They are a chunk of points, but you probably want assault terminators in them, plus a new HQ (chaplain would be nice). On the other hand, you can tack ~600 points onto your army in one big box-o-pain. But for a growing army, I'd go with some more versatile units.
Your dread would like a drop pod.
Tacs could use either pods or rhinos. I'd go with the tanks unless you want to go all-drop.
A dev box would give you some versatility to your heavy weapon picks. I think modern tactical squad boxes contain a melta and plasma gun, this would help as well. ML/F are fine, jack of all trades units, but a little specialist gear can go a long way to making them more effective.
A pair of normal speeders are nice. With magnets (or a little sticky tac) you can swap weapons around depending on the list you are running. So they can fill whatever role you think you will need.
One of the problems making suggestions for vanilla marines is there are so many ways to build them. What aspects of the army do you like? What chapter are you building?

My only advice for a beginner fellow marine: Just buy a lot of magnets and magnetise eveything in vehicles. I will save you a lot of money and trouble..

Thanks for all of the advice.
I'm trying to go for something that is a bit diverse. I really like the terminators in the games that I've played, but I hear the vanilla marine terminators just really aren't that good compared to many of the other armies. I like firing tons of shots at the enemy. I'm really excited to get the two predators and rain in shells from far away, so maybe that's something that I could build the army around?
I will definitely get a new HQ, then. I just hate having to spend money on a new unit when it's not actually buffing my point count, it's just replacing something I already have. I definitely noticed that the captain seemed to be trash in the few games I've played. He simply dies too quickly. That's the other problem I've had in games is I just can't get my tactical squads up far enough to do any damage before artillery has really taken a piece out of me.
I'm not set on using the Land Speeder at all. It was a gift from a friend who wasn't playing space marines anymore, and it was already assembled. I figured the least I could do was paint it up and make it look okay. It doesn't necessarily need to be in the list. So, taking into consideration what I'm getting from you two. The next units I should buy are:
1. Librarian w/ Terminator Armor (Do I have to find a librarian that is specifically in terminator armor?)
2. Scouts and Sergeant Telion
3. Predator
4. Aegis Defense Line
5. Drop Pod
6. Rhino
7. Rhino
How does that look? Should I consider that 3rd tactical squad? Also, would I be able to get another squad of terminators?
Also, I'm playing Ultramarines. I've done quite a bit of decal work. I'm going a little darker in blue than the traditional Ultramarines, but they're easily identifiable as Ultra.

Hahaha, this is such great advice. I've made a few errors with that, so far, but I'm working on magnetizing everything from now on. I ordered 100 magnets, and I'm magnetizing the predator I'm currently working on, and everything from now on will be magnetized. I'm not exactly sure how I'd magnetize the infantry, though. Seems like it would be tougher than a vehicle, as vehicles have a bunch of surface area to use.

One example of how I could see it saving money already is that the predator/rhino have the exact same hull. If you wanted an extra rhino, you could just pull the guns from the predator and Viola!

I do not personally think it is worth it magnetizing infantry models, except perhaps the sergeants (or your HQ)
And yes, if want to participate in tournaments, your Libby model must have terminator armor if you spare the points for it

Nevermind a Quadgun, if you are taking Telion take the Icarus Lascannon.
Sniper Lascannon, hoooooo.
I'd drop the Storm, to be honest, unless you are running either shotgun scouts or close combat scouts.
Also, give the Scouts Cloaks + Telion, and enjoy the 2+ save in any Aegis Line / Ruin.
If you take a Termie Libby, I'd suggest buying a Grey Knight Terminator in bits with a better weapon than a staff. Unless you go against a lot of Xenos / non-Marines, it's kind of gak.
Just throw a stormshield arm on his left arm, use a weapon on the right, and the GK bodies come with Psychic hoods already modeled on.
And then, even better, you can give him a helmet!
I'd also suggest giving those Termies a Cyclone Missile Launcher. 10 Stormbolter Shots + 2 ML shots? yeeees.
If you do buy a Land Raider, make it a redeemer if it's going to carry something, a Godhammer if it's not.
If you end up wanting to use speeders, take them in pairs. 2 of them moving 48", armed with MM/HF or Dual MM (or Dual HF if you don't face a lot of armor...), and then next turn blowing up a tank / dropping heavy flamer templates is great.
The only downside is getting that close to someone is a bad time for a speeder. Which is why I generally run mine as missile boats.

Rhinos won't add a lot of points to your army, but will help get your troops across the table. As you noticed, never buy the basic rhino box. The razorback is just a couple bucks more and can be switched between both easy.
Snipers/Talion/ ADL is a nice combo. They do a good job holding down your home objective while the rest of your army pours forward.
Don't get hung up on what other armies do better then us. We're just fine doing our own thing. And tactical terminators are solid. I like the assualt cannon, and toss a chainfist or two on the squad myself. CMLs are a good choice as well. HFs do what they do very well, but you have to be close to use them. Cheap though...
The only infantry worth magnetizing is going to be sergeants and HQs. For the time and effort involved, just buy another tac box for the extra bodies. You can never have enough spare power armor guys around. The devastator box has enough weapon bits for 8 guns and a sarge, but only enough torsos for 5 marines. Pair that with some extra bodies from a tac box and you will have all the heavy choices you need for a 2k+ army.

*EDIT
After some research, the Godhammer configuration is just a way of fitting the Redeemer if I'm not mistaken. You use two twin-linked lascannons and Twin-Linked Heavy Bolter... correct?
I have two questions about these suggestions. First, I thought if I use a stormshield, I couldn't use another weapon with the Librarian in terminator armor. If this isn't the case, what weapon should I give the Librarian on top of giving him a storm shield?
Second, so I should definitely buy the Land Raider box that is a Crusader/Redeemer flavor, and not just the normal box? I've never heard of a Godhammer Land Raider.

"Godhammer" refers to the standard Land Raider with HB and LC sponsons. Also, for the Libby, when you give him terminator armor, you either give him stormshield, storm bolter or whatever. The force weapon stays. Also, force weapons are pretty neat anyway. If they inflict a successful wound on a unit with more than 1 wound there's a chance of giving it instant death.
