For the anniversary of the Battle of Kursk, my FLGS is putting together an Apoc sized game. Granted, it's 8 months away... but I'd like to start working on an army. We'd be using the Eastern Front book (or whatever comes to replace it by then), with 6-8 players on a side.

Here's what I've come up with:
395 1943 Schwere Panzerkompanie HQ(Heer)
770 1943 Schwere Panzer Platoon(Heer)
770 1943 Schwere Panzer Platoon(Heer)
180 Panzer Anti-aircraft Platoon(Heer)
150 Panzer Scout Platoon(Heer)
525 Panzer Platoon(Heer)
205 Grenadier Platoon
2995 points

That gives me 5 Tigers, 3 Armored 7/1 Quad guns, Kettenkrads and MG Teams as recce, 3 Stug G's, and a nice 9 stand Grenadier platoon. Even better, I already have the 5 tigers painted and have the Grenadiers and Stugs from Open Fire! I'm also currently winning an auction for the Kettenkrads, and they'll some flavor to my forces.

Thoughts, and suggestions?

In a 3k game those tigers are going to have a tough time holding objectives with just 1 grenadier platoon. You might want to look at moving you points around to manage another infantry platoon somehow.

The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against the inevitable. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the darkness comes for you.

Since we're talking about Kursk, be prepared to encounter defensive and prepared positions in the form of obstacles, gun-pits, and possibly bunkers, etc.

So with this in mind, I'd consider pioneers to gap obstacles and flame dug-in infantry. I'd go with Goliath demo carriers as well.

But yeah, you might want to consider two platoons of infantry for the objectives, although we do not know what this Kursk setup will be, it couldn't hurt though.

Wow... Total-War looks very sweet. The FOW equivalent of 40k's Apocolypse, eh?

I'm not sure what we are using... I thought it was bigger, but it might be more of a "campeign in a day"... Either way, it'll be sweet.

So I've posted on the store's forum for more info.

Just keep in mind that it hasn't been updated for 3rd edition.

I'm not an expert on Total War, but there isn't really much about it that would need to be updated for third edition, is there? If I understand it right, it's just a campaign system, so it should work just fine with the new edition.

I always play Tanks and Objective denial is how you stop your opponent from scoring and while they try to rush the objectives, you score points by destroying the units that are trying to claim the objective. Does not always work but it's really fun to play.

I would keep the Anti-Aircraft close to the Tigers and use the Panzers to protect the flanks. Everything else goes to harass infantry or make a play for the objective.
