Hi guys. Was putting a squad together and wanted to make a "ranged" shooty squad. Does anyone know how to convert a decent looking marine autocannon?

Also, this probably belongs in another thread... but what is your opinion on a tactical squad modeled with a flamer and melta? I am unsure of what I will be facing in the future so was thinking about the versatility of it.

Many thanks

Magnetise a couple models so you can swap the weapons out - can't get more versatile then that ; ) It's easy and cheap.

That sounds like an interesting idea!
Im new to the whole magnetizing thing... what size magnets would fit the marines? It looks like they would have to be pretty small :S

I ordered 2 boxes of regular SM devastators, giving me 2 lascannons, 2 missile launchers, and 4 heavy bolters.

The Heavy Bolters I converted to Autocannons by cutting off most of the barrel assembly past the sight. I then used an autocannon barrel from the IG heavy weapons crew and tacked it on. Garnish with a few random spikey bits and blades, and you have Autocannon Havocs.
Backpacks were done by carefully cutting the chaos boosters from the chaos packs and replacing the Smurf boosters.

I did shorten the barrels a bit, the originals were ridiculously long.

Total bits were just IG autocannons (pricey now, were cheap, find a buddy that has some), and some backpacks to butcher (dirt cheap). The CSM standard marine pack has a bolter you can convert, I just liked the extra ammo and needed the missile launchers and lascannons from the dev kit.

Great Wolf, I have some spare autocannons I could bitz-swap with you for something if you like?

I've done Heavy Bolter/guard autocannon splices in the past and they've worked well I'd say that sentinel autocannons scale better; the heavy weapon team's barrels looked too big for my tastes, but they're still usable
