Hello folks, considering my Christmas list and thinking that there must be a set of paint brushes that are;

A) Cheaper than GW ones

B) Better than GW ones

If you know of a range that is about or less expensive than GW but of better quality, especially for holding a pointed tip, let me know!

Thanks

Raphael 8404 are what I recommend to anyone looking for a new brush. I cannot tell you how they compare to GW brushes in price, but Secret Weapon Miniatures (where I buy mine) sells them for $11.65 + S&H. However, it should be noted that no brush (no matter how expensive or nice it is) will last very long unless you take proper care of it. Use a brush soap at the every painting session and it will keep that brush like new for a VERY long time. The easiest brush cleaner to come by is Masters Brush Soap, which is available at your big-name arts & crafts stores (A.C. Moore, Michael's, etc.)

Both better and cheaper when compared to the rebranded brushes they put in their Master Class paint set.

I just got a set of the Army Painter brushes and I'm quite pleased with all of them, except the drybrushes. Not a huge fan of those... but everything else is wonderful.

Army Painter brushes are cheap and real good. I was about to give up on them out of frustration of not painting as good as I know I can. But when I started using the correct brushes for the job I saw an incredible improvement.

I was previously using the Regiment for...everything. Including highlighting, fine details...everything...

When I started using the detail and insane detail Army Painter Wargamer brushes, it was like night and day. MUCH easier to paint and been using these brushes for a while now. Just make sure to clean them real well as you should with any brushes. I use Masters Brush Cleaner soap.

Rosemary and co seem quite nice,Series 33 kolinsky sable, I recently got a few from them aswell as some Windsor and Newton series 7. Both are great Rosemary & co were definitely cheaper for me, I don't know if that holds up with international shipping, but it might
I also got a couple of the Mongoose hair brushes from them for drybrushing, but havent had chance to use them much yet; lately I have been painting the Dark Vengeance Death Wing Terminators which didnt call for it much.

This^^^ Everything he said I agree with.

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

Another +1 on the Raphael 8404. They're really nice and have a very fine point on them. I pretty much use it for everything including base coat, details, and even eyes on a size 0. If you thin your paints good enough they also hold a ton of paint. I've tried a few of the other bigger name brands and nothing compares in my opinion.

yeah i like the army painter brushes... they are similar in quality if not better and cost about the same... they do have a much larger assortment of brushes, finer detail brushes and interesting flat drybrushes that work well for detailed work
