I just came across this discussion that makes a totally serious comparison between the Imperium and the Nazis for the umteenth time. I'm getting really sick of seeing this total disregard for human tragedy using it to justify something in a game. I've also seen other users point out the same fact. Most notably debunking the old discussion that playing a Nazi army is ok because the Imperium killed more people than the Nazis. The Imperium never killed anyone, because they aren't real. It's also getting really old to see this sort of thing constantly. If you can imagine a recurring Matt Ward topic that's legitimately offensive.

I'm posting this here since this is the closest thing to a meta-board.

I this is topic is coming up over and over again then i can see the benefit of forcing it all into one thread. It doesn't sound like that's the problem though.

Just because you disagree with someones point doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to discuss what they think. Similarly, are you saying people shouldn't be allowed to discuss Nazi Germany in reference to any other topic now in case someone finds it upsetting?

I'm not getting at you here, i'm just trying to show that everyone's view point is valid.

I mean, if they can't talk about Nazi's in that context anymore then i don't think anyone should be able to compare the Ecclesiarchy to Christianity after all the atrocities committed under that name.

It's said a lot but it's true: Maybe just don't read the thread that's aggravating you? You are reading this material out of choice after all. Pro Nazi literature is also available if you really want to smash your head in with that brick some more.

I'm not the only person who finds this sort of thing offensive. I'm not finding issue with people talking about Nazis, only this specifically. As for your troll comment, I don't know going into these things what they're going to be about. Once I see what it is, I report it and move on.

Warhammer 40k finds its inspiration in many sources, including various historical epochs generally and the real incidence of authoritarianism and totalitarianism specifically. Whether or not the Imperium is "justified" in its frothing xenophobia and all-around cruelty is a morally insignificant question vis-a-vis reality ... as you say, Warhammer 40k isn't real. This is a point noted by other users when making the comparison to reality:

I would certainly moderate any post that I determined used 40k as a smokescreen for racist comments. Racist comments are not allowed on this site generally. (That does not include in-universe "racism" against xenos, by the way -- although, depending on the context, that could be flaming.)

I realize that it does take a historian to spot stuff like that though. Anything that you do know to make it easier to identify that sort of thing is good, because it's harmful to have people repeating that sort of stuff.

There was also another post by Kroothawk where he blatantly denied the Holocaust by claiming that non Jews (specifically slavs) were not victims of the Holocaust.

You're missing the fact that he is using the definition of Holocaust that only includes jews. He isn't saying they didn't go to the camps. Read his link on that post.

Yeah, Kroot definitely wasn't denying the Holocaust. He was merely making a clarification on your own knowledge of the Holocaust, which was the mass genocide of the jewish people as an act by the German forces during that time period, whereas you're implying anyone that died in a camp was a victim of the Holocaust, which at first glance I would agree with you...

No, because the writers who wrote 'bout the Imperium seem to have been at least partially inspired by real evil stuff.

I say move it all to fan fiction or chain-games, though. Those threads add nothing to the 40k discussion forum.

I think he see's a comparison between the Imperium and the Nazi's make what the Nazi's did seem less serious and less real.
In reality people compare things they know about to things they don't because it helps them to understand it. In this case they compare the Imperium to the Nazi's and it helps people understand the Imperium.
