help Haar Miniatures produce Cambric the Itinerant Jurist Miniature

Who is Cambric?

Our first miniature and the focus of this campaign is Cambric Goayin. He is an itinerant Jurist, an adventuring but practical scholar of the law. Since achieving his confirmation over 10 years ago he has travelled the Archipelago by both land and sea lending his expertise to all those in need regardless of station. He inspects the punishment logs of both ships and settlements he visits to ensure that the Maritime laws that govern the island nations are not applied harshly or indeed to lightly.

Current Status

As mentioned I have 36 character descriptions accompanied by my own rather “unique” stick figure art. rather than rest on my laurels I have done the following;

I have commissioned the character concept for Cambric together with character sketches for the ten characters and 2 monsters in the first Haar series. The ludicrously talented Carlos Cara has done a phenomenal job in capturing the core of each character from sketch to final concept. As these are character studies they do not represent the final pose of the miniatures.

Olivier Nkweti, the sculptor for Cambric has been signed up and will begin work in early/mid December. Olivier is grossly tallented and has previously worked for Rakham, Upperdeck, Privateerpress, Wryd, Infinity, CMON and Dark-Age to name just a few...

I have approached several other sculptors at the time of writing this to establish a schedule and wow, are they ever busy people? Two further sculptors have expressed an interest and given a rough schedule of when they are available. More details as they are confirmed

The process of identifying a casting company continues…

so the art looks interesting, the goal is reasonable for a single boutique mini (especially if we get to 3K when a second is added), free shipping and a known sculptor (and importantly for indiegogo a fixed campaign so if it doesn't fund you'll get a refund... remember indiegogo uses paypal so payment happens when you pledge)

It's a small and reasonable amount and I really like the look of the siren shark.

I do wish they'd show an example sculpt though. Artwork is great but I'd like to see how it transfers.

Well that's what the campaign is for, money to pay for the sculpting etc

they do tell you who the scuplptor is going to be so you can look up other examples of their work

They link to their sculptor:

The sculptor seems excellent. They have made several of my favorite sculpts for Malifaux as well as some of CMON's well-sculpted cheesecake line of minis.
Considering the Steampunk objective of this Indiegogo, the sculptor's Malifaux experience is especially well-fitting.

Hey Folks,

This is Cambric pretty much done. He just needs the sword blade added which will be done after the model is baked and the hands removed for the mastering process. I've re-posted the concept art to give you an idea of how good Olivier is at this sculpting lark.... Thanks for all the feedback so far and I'm not above begging for contributions to get this mini into production!

That is an amazing miniature. I only wish that the female concept that exists as concept was also available;

My only question is... how in the world can you afford worldwide free shipping on the miniature at $15?

In any case, a wonderful looking miniature brimming with character.

She will ... the sculpting process is due to begin late January for Sicilaine. I can't wait to show you the rest of the range including the bigger set pieces and scenic stuff but until then, baby steps.

$15 is for just the miniature by itself with nothing other than a bit of secure packaging and a padded envelope. It's not that expensive to ship 50g to anywhere in the world or even 150g if the first two stretch goals were met, $15 for 3 minis including shipping. It then becomes a loss making venture but limited solely to those signed up to the campaign.

Oh and thanks for the feedback!
Darren

Hi folks

Olivier finished up the 32mm Cambric miniature this morning and I couldn’t be happier with it. He has captured both the look and feel of the character I was trying to achieve perfectly. Below is a shot of the final “green” and its component breakdown.

There are still a couple of days for contributions to be made and I really hope that we make it otherwise the miniature schedule will be on a much longer time frame. If you get a chance have a look at http://www.indiegogo.com/haar and give us a little pressie for Christmas … we’ll give you a pressie back in February!

Outstanding news!

so you can pick Cambric up for $15 (plain mini) or $22 (fancy box, art cards etc) and be SURE of getting him (ships free worldwide)

If we hit $3000 total in the next 33 hours we get Scilaine (added to your order FREE is you pledge for Cambric) it could happen and would double your reward!

If by a major rush we get $4500 we'll also get Tenril Mornen added

I haven't had a great deal of experience with Indiegogo, so any help is appreciated:

I pledged for the LE Kit ($22 or so), but have been thinking of adding some additional copies/the second mini if it becomes available. But since Indiegogo takes the money when you pledge (rather then the end of the campaign as in KS), you can't really increase your pledge level. So... what do you do if you just want to add onto it?

Hey Buzzsaw,

Firstly thanks for considering emptying your wallet in my direction . You've hit the jugular regarding increased contributions on Indiegogo. There's a couple of ways you can do it but both will require you to make a new and separate contribution.

1. If you have your eye on a specific perk simply contribute again.
2. For multiples of said perk put in the total amount under Step 1 and select "No Perk, just a contribution! " then note what perks you are after in Step 5.

A little under 12 hours remaining in our campaign. We've added a number of bundle perks with savings of up to 55% http://www.indiegogo.com/Haar/x/1680537

Well this funded sucessfully paying for the Cambric mini's production. I'll keep this thread updated as I recive updates on the production etc so you can see how Pyre handles things so you can decide if you want to shop with/support them in the future

Update

Morning all!

This will be the last update for 2012 while as work ticks away in the background. I just wanted to give you a clear idea of where we are with the miniature and the money you contributed;
1. Art: Carlos has completed two amazing colour concepts and 12 character/genre pack sketches. Most of these have been visible on the site and I have signed off on the progress to date. 100% complete and paid in full 17-Dec-2012.
2. Master Sculpt: As you have seen Olivier has done a frankly outstanding job with the sculpt over the past two weeks. I have signed off on the sculpt but due to the Christmas bloat the postal service undergoes in the UK I have asked that Olivier retain the miniature until the New Year when it will be shipped to me. 100% complete and paid in full 17-Dec-2012.
3. Caster: The original caster I had is no longer available and while frustrating there are enough companies available that I can go to. I’m not just looking in the UK but in France Spain and Germany too. Not yet started, on budget, at risk
a. Risk: Salute trade show ramp up has started in the UK meaning that casters are very busy January to April.
b. Risk: Securing a caster outside of the UK may mean in increase in cost, time frame for delivery or both.
4. Art cards: I have identified the supplier and I have the high-res files for the art. I will wait until after the New Years to have these printed. I may change one of the cards to show a montage of the sculpt as it progressed. This would replace the colour concept WIP . 50% complete and on budget.
5. Certificates: I have decided to produce a number of “X of 32” certificates to cover the Indiegogo contributors. These will be somewhat more intricate than those included in the general release product. 30% complete and on budget
6. Box: I have identified several box types and I am awaiting samples of each. I don’t envisage this starting in any meaningful way until mid/late January. Not yet started, on budget

That’s it in a rather wordy nutshell. If you have any question or comments you can still post on the campaign or you can email me at info@pyre-studios.com.

Have a great Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Darren

The first new year update on the fulfilment process is in and it contained this section

"Further Contributions;
I have received emails from quite a few people wishing to “buy into” the Cambric miniature even though the campaign is now closed. Initially reluctant I am now inclined to do so by perhaps making a limited number available for those who missed them first time around. Instead of making all of the perks available I have selected four of them and altered their price. These would be treated as a discounted “pre-order” and would have certificates for the production run rather than the Indiegogo run. They would be pitched at;

$25: Full Cambric LE Kit: Unpainted
$95: Full Cambric LE Kit: Painted
$180: Complete Series 1: Unpainted
$450: Complete Series 1: Painted

On this point of further contributions I ask for your opinions. I’m mindful that my duty is to you but the campaign was perhaps ill timed in the run up to Christmas when money was tight for those who would have otherwise contributed. Is the above acceptable? If so, with the slight increase in price, different certificate etc… does this retain the value of your original contributions? Is it something that would concern you?

In addition to this I’m looking into including a scenic base for Cambric should funds allow. These would be used as a further offset for those who claimed the $22, $80, $160 or $400 perks in the campaign should the pre-orders be green lit.

Hmmmmm…
Darren"

Myself and the other responders so far seem to agree this would be a good thing to let others get in on the act (for a bit more cash) so while I can't promise Darren will decide to go on with this

if you are interested contact Darren via the Pyre studios website to get your name on the list as it were

Quick update folks,

After getting a couple of comments and a few emails I’ve decided to crack on with the discounted pre-orders. These are now live on the website http://www.pyre-studios.com

These are discounted against the RRP of the retail product by between 35%-75% and include free worldwide shipping.

New update: Haar has a caster (which is nice, LOL. Actually a good thing as they tend to get booked up at this time of year)

"Week 2 update;
After a panicked couple of weeks I’ve managed to source a casting company, Black Dragon Casting, who will hand cast each miniature. This means that we may be able to start meeting fulfillment slightly earlier than planned for some of the perks specifically those at $15, $80. $115, $400
Apart from this I’ve been working on the art cards and short story.

1. Art (complete): Paid in full 17-Dec-2012.
2. Master Sculpt (complete): Paid in full 17-Dec-2012.
3. Caster (ongoing): UK based casting company has signed on. The master sculpt will be shipped out tomorrow and production will begin not to long after that.
4. Art cards (ongoing): At printers – 75% complete and on budget.
5. Certificates (ongoing): At printers – 75% complete and on budget
6. Box (ongoing): Samples arrived but found not to be suitable. I’m looking into other options or even a changed to the planned packaging type – Not yet started, on budget
7. Phosos Burnings Story (ongoing): 45% complete, art brief complete.

I hope your 2013 is going well.
Darren"

Just a final update on the Haar Indiegogo

Pyre studios has shipped out the minis to all backers as far as I know and I found mine waiting for me when I got in this evening

this is Cambric, very well cast in grey resin (my photo does not do it justice, it's a very crisp cast & I've not take off any of the casting gates yet, but none of them are in 'difficult' areas)

I went for the more expensive fancy packaging so I got a COA, a couple of post cards of the concept art, and a photo montage of the sculpt as a WIP

and this is the box, big enough for the postcards in a classy 'natural' finish

I've been very happy with how this has gone (a couple of months late, but communications have been good, and new companies can be excuse for finding things a bit slower than they expected) so if any of you were thinking of buying from Pyre Studios give it a go.
