So I need a army case, I really don't like my painted models floating around in the army box. So i'm thinking about getting either army transport (sabol designs) or battlefoam. Now I really want to get a big case to hold both some treys of 40K and WHFB, so for AT, I would get the division or the battalion and for BF, the XL 1520. Does the quality outweigh the price for BF or is AT just as good? One more question, I know that the 1520 opens like a refrigerator and the division opens like a foot locker, how does the battalion open. And what is the biggest case? Thanks everyone!

Another product of comparable price that goes beyond the bag-and-tray system.
Each tray can hold 3 subtrays. Each subtray can hold up to 20 models on 25mm bases.

Army Transport bags (Sabol) are garbage. The bags have zero support and are squishy as hell. Tablewar's stuff are basically luggage. They're sturdy as hell but heavier than I like. Battlefoam has very nice bags. They're thin and light while having rigid panels that provide support. You can't use them as a chair or stepstool but they'll keep your figures safe and sound.
I'd say Tablewar looks to have the advantage if you have figures in trays such as you need in Warhammer Fantasy. If you keep your figures separated like 40k Marines or whatever, you might want to consider Battlefoam.

A little too expensive for the wheeled version I'm afraid. And Breotan: that's what I figured, for the price it worked. I may just get the small platoon to hold me over.

I use Bubble wrap and slot car display boxes with a standard grey toolbox. Costed less than £50 (not including the slotcars), rarely breaks anything and I can carry up to 3000 points worth of models.
For reference, the slot car cases are older versions of these:
The only difference is my ones are box shape cuboids. You don't need some stupid £150+ case to carry around an army and not break the contents.

I like battle foam. I friend has an army transport for his Tau, but after about 6 months of using it and seeing mine, he bought battle foam for his next army (Blood Angels).

Here is what I did. I got a Battlefoam Sword Bag which uses the same foam as Sabol. This way, should I need more pluck foam, I can order that for less from Neal at TheWarStore.
They also have a Shield bag which takes GW foam, should you happen to have a supply of that.

My local area tends to use the army transport bags more often due to them actually being sold in the store. I have yet to actually see a battle foam case in the flesh (I don't go to tourneys)
My own bags are from a company that just shut down their website recently, Charon Productions out of Canada ( iirc) I have two bags from them that I have used now for 5+ years, I also have a really ancient army transport bag, and a GW case that came with my mega paint set a few years back. The Charon trays can fit in the GW case with no problem so if I am taking one of my bigger armies, I can use the medium sized or huge sized case, and if I'm taking my GK or my Warmahordes out to play, I can stick a few foam trays into the GW hard case and take that with me.
For mass storage, I use hard trays from a jewelery supply chain. http://www.nilecorp.com/store-detail.asp?categoryID=Jewelry-Display-Trays-Inserts&subcategoryID=20021403&subcategory=10.+Utility+Tray+%28click+for+more+style%29&txtPicName=Jewelry_Utility_Tray.jpg&description=standard+plastic+stackable+tray%2C+standard+wood+tray I also have two soft sided cases and one large rolling aluminum case that fits those trays, and believe me, you can cram a TON of models/bits into each tray.
edit: Poking around on the site a bit, and this is my hard case from Nile: http://www.nilecorp.com/products.asp?sku=862-7 and my soft cases are http://www.nilecorp.com/products.asp?sku=91-B2

Personally, I'm kitting my entire collection using a KR Mulitcase system. I already have a KR Aluminum case and its been great, and now my next job is purchasing a KR Backpack 2, and a set of custom cut trays (for my Dark Eldar, Tau, CSM, Skaven) in the KR Card Cases, so I can just pick what I want on the day and whack it in the bag and of course as I expand, I'll be able to simply order more card cases (For my eventual Space Wolves, Sisters of Battle, Eldar, Tyranids and Lizardmen). Battlefoam is nice, but it's just so damn expensive, and at the end of the day, KR is good quality, does the same job and is significantly cheaper.

Here is my cheap solution.
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8WysEpOaFO0/T2OB5pzM1UI/AAAAAAAAAYY/1eGgkOLBFkE/s1600/dave+3forint.jpg
snapware from target, I bought 2 and use 4 layers.
http://www.target.com/p/snapware-2-layer-blue-10x14-storage-container/-/A-13248390#prodSlot=medium_1_5&term=snap ware
http://www.target.com/p/room-essentials-3-layer-organizer-blue-medium/-/A-13516550#prodSlot=medium_1_7&term=snap ware
glues tin sheet to bottom with liquid nail.
magnetized bases.
Tall enough for a speeder on flight stand.
Taken on planes and around the U.S no issues.
Travel is easy when the only things i have to carry are this, back pack with gaming gear (which you could use an empty layer for) and a fold-able display board which fits into a layer.
Otherwise i would use a Tablewar display case. I've seen people check them in on flights with the models in foam in the case and then set them up for rapid deployment at tournies.

From my own experience, I'll throw my hat into the "support Battlefoam" ring. If I have to move again, I'll be getting another case to combine and hold my Malifaux and Warmachine stuff (and possibly my Nurgle CSMs)

I went with Sabol for both my armies. 3k pts in both BA and SW (and soon Nids)
I just want to point out that people used Sabol cases for what... 10 years befor battlefoam came around? Thats saying something. The cases are just as good IMO. If you need the sturdier walls because you throw the bags around like a child... then go with BF. I have no problems with the pluck foam and Sabol cases. Protected my stuff for years and never had a broken model. You will save some money with Sabol cases, you just have to...not toss your army out of the car on the way home from a tournement you did poor in.
PS - Some of the BF trays will fit in the Sabol cases. IE the 5 drop pod tray. I know from exp.

I bought a Sabol case for my Nids... Absolutely terrible, unless you get the precut Nid trays. The spindly bits on the bugs get caught on bloody everything in those pluck trays, and theres really no neat way to pop them out to fit good numbers of nids per tray.

I've only ever used Sabol's Army Transports, and I've had no problems over the years. I just got their Armored Company transport, with hard plastic lining. I can understand the appeal of Battlefoam, but the price turns me off.

There's no doubt about it, Battlefoam charges a premium price for their product. Still, if you have the chance to examine it, you'll find it to be far and above Sabol in quality and materials. I suppose their prices might be a little more palitable if the shipping costs could be mitigated somehow.

I really, really like BF's bags; I just wished they'd fit some softer foam somehow. I know I can get KR foam to fit but it leaves a 1,2" space unused - which is a waste of perfectly good storage space
the hard foam is just horrible to work with unless you get custom cut foam for *everything* - which is way over my budget...

I used to have one of the Charaon bags: the big huge one. I finally tossed it a few months back, as it was much less 'useful' than my Sabol and Battlefoam bags. The old Charon case I had was based around the 'egg foam' wavy-foam sheets instead of the individual storage cubbbies most modern designs use. I had some definite breakage and scratch/chip when I moved my old SoB force in one a few yeaars abck. They've been moved to BF trays which are stored under a cabinet for the moment.
Not a bad bag, but the size was inconvenient at times. Imagine two large pizza boxes side-by-side, now stack boxes to make it 4 -6 inches thick. had a strap, held a good bit but was hard to fit in some cars without contortions.

Mine came with a mix of the egg type foam and the cut holes for figures. Some sheets are deeper and can hold a land speeder kind of tightly. (worries of breaking off the front antenna led me to chop them off and add magnets) I only use the egg foam for tanks, not for figures/fiddly bits.
My small one is 2 foam trays wide, my larger one is three foam trays wide, never been a problem since I have a pickup.

For anyone who says Sabol trays are weak or not-sturdy, I have used them for eight years now. I throw figure cases on the back of my motorcycle and in this time, I have not experienced any casualties during transportation. They're cheaper than BF. When I initially saw what would become battlefoam, when Romeo attended GT Chicago in 2008 or 9, I thought they were ridiculously cool. Then I saw the price. I cannot justify spending the extra money over what I'd pay for Sabol stuff, for a product that doesn't perform its primary task any better. I got the free giveaway bag at adepticon last year and decided to make it my bloodbowl bag, and it holds like 8 teams. So the Battlefoam stuff isn't bad, per se, it's just - I've got close to 100,000 points of 40k stuff, and paying double the cost for cases just isn't an option. If you want your figure case to also serve as some sort of a status symbol, by all means, spend the extra money. They're very nice. But, personally, I'll let my armies serve as my status symbol and keep my cases functional.

I think the biggest one at the end of the day for me is this:
Backpack 2:
10" foam
10"x15" trays
Empty £43.99
Core £82.99
Custom £99.99
Postage free: inc. in price.
PACK GO:
9" of foam.
15.5"x12" Trays
Empty £73.20
Standard £120
Custom £132
+ £12 P&P
Both KR and Battlefoam are highquality products, both have lots of options, but for me, this means the backpack alone will be £100 with custom foam from KR, or £144 from Battlefoam.
I'll be needing more foam aswell, as I have just under 18,000pts of model to find homes for.

I would love to hear how exactly Battlefoam is more "impractical" than Sabol. And how is it more difficult to adjust, whatever that means?

You can buy pluck foam for Battlefoam bags but then why not just buy Sabol or KR multicase at half the price? So if you are considering the lasercut foam of Battlefoam then you are committing to trays that cannot be adjusted once they are ordered. Also some of the Battlefoam trays are impractical in that a tray for Necron Ghost Arks for example, comes with space for two arks and space for two barges or stalkers I believe. Now if you only own 1 ark then it's I practical to purcha that tray. If later on you decide you don't need two arks or don't have them to begin with that tray is worthless. So you are then basically stuck with ordering a custom load out. And again later on you can't adjust it as you add to or take from your collection and at a higher price than pluck foam options. I own 5 Sabol bags and aside from the 4 Monoliths and 1 Ark of my 10,000+ points of Necrons everything is fit into 1 Army transport II, 1 Platoon, and a Motorpool Bag. All made by Sabol. I have just now reached the point of needing another bag. And best yet Sabol has an option with the Platoon bag where you can attach multiple Patton bags together or to an Army transport II. I doubt anyone could fit the same models into as few battlefoam bags.
