yeah, so as many of you know, the little chessex dice cubes are terrible. I've been looking for a replacement lately that wouldn't break the bank and figured I'd ask the brilliant minds of Dakka for help.
I run a massive foot Imperial Guard army, so I need to be able to get large amounts of dice (preferably 50+) and them be reasonably sized for ease of transport. I can have batches of rolls in upwards of 40 dice from a single unit, so I need a pretty hefty amount.
Friends at the local FLGS recommended "casino dice", aka ones with flat edges, as the round edges chessex dice tend to get out of control for me and fly off the table at a moments notice. Annoyingly, we've also got some of the new GW realm of battle boards or whatever they're called, and they play hell on chessex dice. The rolling hills and skull pits do not help matters.
So yeah, any good sites to get decently cheap, flat edged dice in large amounts? Cool looking is a plus, but not required. And I guess we can just talk about quality/cool dice as well, as I'd like to know what makes a good die so I know what to shop for.

Casino dice are good, as are game science brand. I personally bought a couple of pair of zontik precision backgammon dice (they have rounded edges, but they're precision). The problem with this is that they're really expensive. Spending $10 for four dice is fine, but four dice won't cut it. In this case, I use my fancy dice for when I have a small number I need to roll.
For the giant pile of rolling, I bought a pair of 10-packs from a company called kopchow.
The precision dice have been shockingly good, really rolling properly random over time. The kopchow have also been good enough for me not to notice them rolling consistently wonky.
But yeah, dump the chessex. You always suspect that they're bad, but then you think to yourself "nah, random is random, I'm probably just seeing things". And then you buy ACTUAL precision dice, and you immediately see what you were missing.
Everybody I know (including myself) has at least a cube or two of chessex dice that they lug around but scarcely use...
Had this discussion with dashofpepper over two years ago...
Casino dice are far too expensive to use for Warhammer, especially considering you play Guard. The sharp corners of them and most 'precision" dice kind of require a padded surface, like a felt-lined gaming table.
Just buy another pack of dice, you'll find it may be "less cursed."
Now enter the endless "surveys" of squareness and average die rolls...
I'm not worried about averages so much. The problem is that the chessex dice roll way too far and bounce too much. The rounded corners make them roll off the table quite a bit, many to never be seen again.
Simply put, I want square dice so they dont go so crazy when I roll them. surely its not too hard to make dice with hard, flat edges?

I get all my dice here and the range and price is fantastic. They do deals if you buy "blocks" of dice, but you can also buy all the dice individually. I also think the price is pretty good - especially if you get the end of the line stuff - I got my D4 for 3p each.
Afraid I can;t recommend a particular dice, I just get the rounded edge ones as they work for me.
I think the problem with casino dice would be that a) they're freaking gigantic and b) they're heavy and probably wreak havoc on the GW battle board and your minis, should they end up tumbling into them. I couldn't imagine trying to roll 40+ casino dice in one go, nor would I ever want to.
If you use the Chessex dice, see if you can get a dedicated felt-lined rolling tray somewhere, that may help. I'm not a fan of rolling dice on plastic/really hard surfaces.
Exactly, which is why I usually have or find a box lid for dice rolling. Its also handy when your opponent can't see where you are rolling, then you can show him the armload of 6s you rolled.

Yeah, realm of battle is TERRIBLE for this. Well, it's also bad for keeping minis on the table too...
A while back, someone brought in some mini dice. They said that they came with heroclix figures. You could easily roll 100 of these with one hand. They will not knock over your figures.
I did a quick websearch and I think that they are 5mm dice.
The downside is that they are so small that they are hard to see. They are also easy to lose, but are so inexpensive that it is not a problem.
I've never had a problem with the Chessex dice. I own probably 300+ and i enjoy collecting them in the different colors like the 3 year girl i am at heart!
But if you really dont like them the casino dice aren't bad price wise and they work fine. I have tons of friends who use them!!
Zocchi dice are great when you can find them, but they are expensive. I appreciate Mr Zocchi's dedication to absolute randomness, but it is, in the end, a game.
Games science dice for me, they are some high class dice.

I use Koplow dice. I have 12mm and 16mm versions. They're squared edge dice. They're not sharp edged 'casino' style squared edges... but they roll FANTASTICALLY. There's no preponderance of any number more than others.
I got mine from a seller named Gobama (or godboma?) on Feebay. I even recommended him in a thread a while ago and a bunch of people bought from him and were happy with what they received.
Oh... and he'll give you a quantity discount, if you ask. I bought about 60 mix & match 16 mm dice, and he gave me a better price than buying them in individual groups.

I have gotten a set for a secret santa gift in my gaming group. 36 12mm dice (in colours to match his army), a dice bag and 2 special dice for psyker tests (the one is replaced by an expletive). £13.50 including postage.

Yeh I've been looking into getting the gamescience dice to replace my chessex. The 12 pk of slate gray is only 9.50 so it doesn't break the bank very much.
Shipping looks like $3 flat. If you order 100$ or more shipping is free
Do people just paint the numbers on for those inkless dice or is there some special method?
Ive read you can just take a crayon and rub it over the number and then wipe off the excess. Might need to touch it up a few times a year but it looks good. You can buy them pre-inked but they are more expensive.
