A little OT, but if you're going to mention 4chan...

If you're on the fence for the Myth Kickstarter (ends in 30-some hours), Myth has a crossover Twilight Knight figure from Kingdom Death. She's available at the $75 or higher level, though $100 Captain is the sweet spot for 150+ fantasy miniatures.

HOWEVER, the Myth figures are 28mm, while KD is 35mm, so I doubt she's meant to be played in KD. And she's fully clothed.

Or, more officially:

A Knight of Twilight
Update #51 · Apr 23, 2013 · 72 comments

Myth and Kingdom Death are proud to present the Twilight Knight Mini-boss.

Kingdom Death is a nightmare horror board game with highly detailed, beautiful 35mscale miniatures. They really set the bar high for both miniatures and Kickstarters.

Early in the Kickstarter cycle Kingdom Death backed Myth. We quickly reached out to them. We knew they were busy, but hoped we might collaborate. We began to talk and decided that doing a Trickster Level and providing a Mini-boss was ideal. Keith got to work on the art transition and with the help of the Kingdom Death team fused these two amazing worlds in the solitary figure of the Twilight Knight.

As with all Mini-bosses, she will be accompanied by a stat card. However, unique to the Twilight Knight, Heroes who somehow defeat her win the cursed blade, the Twilight Sword. The only Orange item in the game at this point.

This Limited Edition miniature will be given for free to all backers at the Minion Level and above ($75).

We can't thank Adam Poots and his team enough for their generosity and effort in this relationship. They really love the hobby and are incredibly good people to know and work with.

AND:

Note*
This model does not include any unique rules for Kingdom Death: Monster. It only has rules for Myth as a mini-boss. It will also be rendered at 28mm heroic scale so it fits within Myth's game. I cannot make any promises of the figures availability outside of Myth's Kickstarter. The intent of this collaboration project is to show support for Myth's campaign and show the good faith and brewing friendship between the two studios.

Why does she always look sad? Is it the clothes? do they restrain her from her otherwise Pin Up posing? Mayhaps we will never know...

Sad times that you can only get the model with $75 buy in.

Yes and no - since Adam and company are doing this in order to help out Myth, and not sell singles of a model that can't be used in KD.

Sure, but they're giving them away free at that pledge level anyway so letting people buy them at $10-15 as an add-on to a lower level is still helpful to Myth.

Why would they do that? There are literally 17 people that would qualify for that.

Exactly!

And on top of that, the Kingdom Death guys pledged $2000 to make this happen!

Sheesh!

Kingdom Death paid $2000 to get a promotional figure into a Kickstarter in order to promote MYTH? That seems odd considering Kingdom Death has already been proven to be absurdly successful and popular whereas MYTH is the one needing the promotion. Why does KD pay $2000?

They selected the "Trickster" level pledge - and that let's you design a miniature for the game.

Why?

To help out a fellow game creator?

To help promote themselves too?

Because they really liked the game?

Because they can?

Either way, it gets every one at $75 and above a free miniature, so...

Plus, it's just awesome! He pays 2 grand and gets a TON of stuff from a really great campaign, plus he gets to put (I would think) one of his own favorite creations into, then gets to promote his game by sending out miniatures to every backer who gets a copy of their game. This, in turn, will drive interest in his game as people see this unique game piece and ask about it. It's all fairly brilliant all around.

Hah, never considered the high-pledge tier of $2000, my mistake. I wasn't criticizing the campaign, I just found it odd that KD was paying MYTH money to popularize their item.

My impression is that Poots is all about that too. If you look at his backer history, he's been a part of a ton of KSes by fellow Indy developers. I think that's a really cool thing.

Is Kingdom Death going to be available for purchase after the kick starter?

I would like to get the game at some point in the future, just didn't have the pennies for it when it was up as a kickstarter.

Kingdom Death: Monster will be available for purchase after all the Kickstarter backers receive their pledges. So you will, most likely, be able to pick it up Q1 or Q2 2014.

We don't know any of that for certain. The production costs could make the widespread, non-KS distribution of it problematic. It's got 700 cards so far in the base game, so who knows how much the MSRP may be when it releases.

Adam now seems to be posting reasonably frequently in the chat on the KS comments

so I'll drop a few of his comments on costs so far in

Manufacturing $1 million
Shipping to backers $400K (this has the potential to rise if prices do)
Printing $300k

KS/Amazon Fees $200K (this ismy rough estimate here)

so it looks like he's got about $150K left for contingencies (and I bet he'll need it), salaries (at the very least for him and Anna), etc

so what looked like an unbelievably huge sum quickly drops down to a decent (but not spectacular sum)

Thanks for the input, Orlando. A bit thinner margin than I would have guessed, but not unexpected. Very cool to know.

Would be interesting to know how many copies that 1.3 million pays for. IE, is that enough for just the backers or does that also cover some number of copies to sell to the general public as well?

A few bits of chat from Adam in the KS comments

the question asked whether the board would be printed in China

@Scott Wells firstly I am going to say something a bit out of character and let you in on a little secret. I am at the mercy of the market. I looked into printing all of the card & game board components locally and not only was the cost far far over budget, none of the companies would even take the print project. It's simply too much hassle and the volume STILL isn't high enough compared to say the cosmetics industry that has a lot of high end printing and box making. So instead I did the most sound thing I could and went with a boston based company that has been in the biz for 35 years. Yes, they do their printing in china, but all their quality management is controlled by their HQ on american soil. The samples they sent me look great, the whitebox print the sent me also looked great. I've dragged them across the coals several times on specific token thickness and finish. My confidence on their ability to deliver is 100%, but manufacturing is manufacturing and I simply won't have mass production units to check, until I do. Do you mind if I ask you personally which board games you feel DO have solid quality tokens? And don't say space hulk! They are just thicker, dripping in gloss and have a deboss effect on them.

the question asked whether the game was on schedule

@John Bobita, I am doing everything within my power to meet the intended goal. Feeling wise, I range from anxiety attack to extreme confidence on a hourly basis, so... I think it would be best if I just stick to facts. The current fact is I have been assured that both the miniature production and the board game / card component production will meet the aforementioned intended goal.

I thought this:

Creator Kingdom Death 1 day ago

@Victor Garrison, Kickstarter is a very strange thing isn't it? I forewarn all that is as much politics and expectation management as it communication and showing your product in the best light possible. I feel it really encapsulates the word "campaign". I think something a lot of us project leads wonder is, would a kickstarter set at the true value actually succeed? Why would someone new take the risk where the stretch goal system seems to work very well.

was VERY interesting.

And probably a good place to start a separate discussion!

Some tidbits:

Creator Kingdom Death 4 days ago

Organization is important to me, since good organization really helps with gameplay flow. We personally found a few games that sport too many tokens / cards very prohibitive to play due to setup time. Then all it takes is one game sessions where people don't clean up and well, things become a mess!

Creator Kingdom Death 4 days ago

@edwardo, yeah i totally understand ya. The trivial pursuit version that is its own self contained box would certainly make the cards more portable. It would also allow you to free up some space on the table since the main game box wouldn't be there. But personally I don't find thumbing thru a compact box style as easy to handle as a dominion box, with its dedicated card slots. I am weighing the pros and cons and I also need to look at the budget so I can make sure to balance everything out.

Creator Kingdom Death 4 days ago

There are never more then 3 "decks" active per game phase. So it doesn't get too out of hand. The only part we've found quickly can get messy is when several people are all sorting thru gear cards at the same time.

Creator Kingdom Death 3 days ago

Honestly, if dominion was just a pile of cards in a box. I highly doubt it would have become a weekend favorite here. The lack of organization is what killed arkham horror. I take the organization SUPER seriously. I just need to find that right balance between, presentation, practical and financially possible.

Creator Kingdom Death 3 days ago

A game should not have to make a busy adult invest SO much time just to get started playing it. Sadly this is why war hammer / war hammer 40k have fallen to the side too. I adored the model building and hobby part of the experience. But then you spend, usually 2 hours just setting up. I don't care how complex a game is once its rolling. Key thought here being it needs to GET rolling.

Creator Kingdom Death 2 days ago

The box cannot be designed in a way to fit all the miniatures and their myriad of assembly options + all the components. So please do not expect storage for assembled figures.

That picture makes me a little bit uncomfortable in it's rapey-ness.
I hope it's relegated to some of the pinup options and not part of the base game.
