The Crisis HQs aren't ICs when attached to their bodyguards, so its 4+ LOS.

Say what now? Obviously I'm missing something here. It just has never come up for me.

I do move and shoot him at 24" with bolters and I also have many missile launchers. My dilemma is a combination of good roles on his part for saves and the volume of wounds he has in the squad. He obviously keeps his shield drones up front and I only ever seem to kill a couple a turn at most. The following turn he just rearranges to put more in front and shifts to a better spot so I almost never get a shot directly at a unit and if I do he never fails the LOS.

I am rather curious about the 2+ or 4+ thing for LOS mentioned. why would his HQ lose its 2+ LOS for drones just because he took bodyguards?

Charging is impossible because he shoots at the 12" range and then even with snake eyes on the jet pack move hes 14"away. 6" move means I still need an 8 on charge AFTER eating AP overwatch. This is possible.....but I dont think hes ever rolled snake eyes on jump move.

From everything ive read to far I guess my best bet is to try and box him in with transports before they blow up and use psyckers as much as possible.

As a long time Tau player I can assure you that with any decent terrain I'll torture you all day with the suits if you're coming after me on foot or in rhinos. I can easily pop the latter and play keep away from the former. What changes the mechanic is when you introduce jet packs, bikes, cavalry or drop pods. All of these provide significant speed upgrades and take away my mobility advantage. Try some out, think you'll find they are useful beyond just Tau.

If you surround the enemy, he won't be able to escape everyone's attention by jetpacking away.
Some options for this have already been mentioned, like pods and wolves - but one big one's been missed. Wolf Scouts. Granted, they're a bit riskier in terms of positioning since you can't absolutely guarantee they'll arrive close enough, but they're good to take with special weaponry that can be fired on the turn they arrive.

That seems like an obnoxiously large amount of points sunk into his command team.

I've found that tau also does exceptionally well at lower point totals due to str5 30 range troops and crisis suits versatility, me and my friend both starting playing recently and we went tau and eldar, I got tabled ludicrously fast in every game up to about 1500 points, since then I've only lost one game out of 4 or 5 and that was because my warp spider squad had a catastrophic deep strike and I couldn't kill his scoring hammerhead because it was big guns never tire.

So my main advice to you is to increase points!

Although fast units are also exceptionally good against tau as anything that can actually catch them and melee them has a good chance of downing them.

That's an astute observation OhNo. Surprised I didn't remark on it myself. I've had the same result against my buddy with Necrons.

I'm not entirely sure I like TWC... they just seem sooo expensive without being overly durable. Maybe I'm out to lunch on that as they seem to get a lot of love on here. Either way I'm definitely going to have to invest in more pods.

I also just got another pack of 10 GH and 5 terminators as well as a predator tank. Perhaps this will get me up to 1500 points and I can do a little better against him.

I always toss a Lord in mine with Runic armor/ SS TWM Saga Bear Random Weapon normally claws and 2 Fenrisian wolves. LOS on a lil wolf is pretty funny.
Toss in 3-4 T-Wolves with 3 SS and something like a TH. Moving 12" assaulting 2-12" is pretty nasty. They have to take out the Death Star before it gets in their lines. frees up time for other units to shoot/ do some dmg.

The unit is really hardy.
