So what's dakkas opinion on the new bank of england governor?
http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20501990
Mr Osborne told Parliament that Mr Carney, 47, would bring the "strong leadership and external experience the Bank needs" and added that the Canadian would apply for British citizenship. He said Mr Carney was acknowledged as "the outstanding central banker of his generation". During Mr Carney's five years as governor in Canada, Mr Osborne said he was "acknowledged to have weathered the economic storm better than any other major Western economy". Mr Carney said he was "honoured to accept this important and demanding role" at a "critical time for the British, European and global economies". He will serve in his current post until May next year.
On a semi-related note I sat in the reserved seat of the previous governor, should've held the seat to ransom

I do know that Bank of America blows though. Bunch of jerks. And Wells Fargo. They can die in a fire.

The Bank of England is a Central bank; it's really not comparable to BofA or Wells Fargo. Our rough equivalent is the Fed.

Well Bank of America almost screwed my career over a few years back when we used them for our Government Travel Cards. Wells Fargo got on my bad list when they double charged my account for an auto loan, we ended up bouncing one of those charges, and the resulting fiasco ended up with something like $250 in late charges, and the customer service rep calling my wife an idiot. In the end after three months of trying to get it fixed, they finally admitted fault. Automatically Appended Next Post: AustonT wrote:djones520 wrote:Good luck? It's not a reference to the "power"; it's a reference to the relative stability of the Canadian banking sector. When the financial crises hit everyone in 2008, Canada basically just rolled over and went back to bed.

Exactly. CD banks, unlike US and British banks, didn't have to be recapitalized (read OWNED) by their governments to keep them afloat. Our cap ratios are now, by BASELL regulation, becoming the industry standard.

Stated a few but basically:
1. Our cap ratios kick Britain's cap ratios right in the crotch, and thats now, AFTER Her Majesty recapitalized your banks.
2. Again we didn't need bailouts.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
