The 4th novel in The Beast Arises series.

Okay, Alabamaheretic has been trying to help get me motivated. We're going to paint 600 points of Guard, since he's rebuilding his army after losing his Vostroyans in a car crash. So he's doing Mordians now, and I'm going back to the Valhallans.

After building a list, I realized I only have to paint 16 models to complete the 600 points. Realizing that felt really good and motivating. I only need to paint the Commander Chenkov model, a lieutenant, 2 grenade launchers, 1 or 2 voxcasters, 2 commissars, 3 missiles launcher teams (so 6 models) and 2 scout sentinels.

That's not bad. Only real issue is I'm missing a missile launcher team. I could sub something else, but I've been meaning to buy one more for a while, and this would be the time, but eBay has none available.

Anybody have any suggestions or know someone trying to get rid of one?

Seems like an decent list to me, but if you're planning on doing combined squads with your infantry squads then the vox casters on one of the units would be redundant

I had to rejigger my list. I put it into Army Builder and it turns out I didn't have two troop choices. So I dropped one of the heavy weapons teams, took carapace armor off the command squad, added in a vet squad with Chimera and it's 596 points.

I've recently purchased:

Punisher tank kit
Another Valhallan squad
Hellhound
Valkyrie
Scion squad
Officio Prefectus commissar & Brother Vinni's not-Commissar Cain
Various priests

It feels good to be giving my IG some more love.Now to find the willpower to built and paint this and all the other stuff

Funny, I always start with black prime but in this case white only makes sense (would be cool to use the watercolour type method of painting).
I think I would use grey and build up / down from there only because of my preference.

I always had a liking for guard that are from some death-world or at least difficult to live places.
I could see them saying "I like explosions near me, they keep me warm!".

Looking good.... cold but good~

And eBay finally had some missile launcher teams up. So I purchased one and now have two full heavy weapon squads of 6 missile launcher teams. Hopefully it will come in the mail soon.

What about this for a 600 point list? I wanted to go more mechanized infantry...

Company command squad, bolt pistol and carapace for the commander, voxcaster, grenade launcher, missile launcher, carapace for the vets, chimera with heavy bolter turret

Commissar

2x vet squad with boxcaster, 2 meltas, missile launcher, grenadiers, and chimera with turret bolter

Armored sentinel with lascannon

Been working on Chenkov, but I think I screwed up his fur. It's too grey looking. It didn't help that the wash filled in the recesses and smoother everything out.

Chenkov actually looks pretty good, and it may just be my preference but I also like how the fur came out

I don't know which rules I've been thinkingnof, hut at the time of this current edition...

Officers can only issue an order to a unit on foot within 12" of them, and a voxcaster just lets you reroll it if it fails?

What good is that?

And now I've bought some ogryns. I'm getting close to having purchased all the things I want for my army

It's not good at all really, as a matter of fact it kind of sucks. But it's the hand we've been dealt as Guard players

I like to think they don't know it's cold so it doesn't affect them.

They're so boneheaded discomfort has to be pointed out to them before they notice it...

Almost done with Chenkov. I haven't been working nonstop, but he's coming along.

Chenkov is looking really good, keep it up!

I'm not liking his boot color though. All of my guys have this old Ral Partha paint called drow flesh as their boot color. And dark reaper is close. It looks okay on the other guys, but sticks out in this model.

He came out pretty good! Real nice work.

I finally finished him. Now I have a Chenkov worthy of the name.
