Well im going to see some friends of mine and they have always found wargaming intriguing but have never got into it. Im going to go visit and stay with them for a week or so (note they live in another state) and i want to introduce them to 40k so what are some good 100pt armies to introduce players to. Because ill buy and paint them then keep them for my selves i will buy no chaos models period so dont suggest that what lists would be ideal for my friends etc......
(personality profiles)
Friend 1- Long range sit back and let you fall into my trap mastermind like character.
Friend 2- America he is not to strategically brainy but smart enough and in other strategy venues video games risk etc he has a stone wall stand point of slowly pushing forward and then in one deaftifying move crushing you.
Friend 3- Crush you quick and crush you fast get their and destroy before you can maneuver your troops the way you want them to be dont give you a chance to fight back.

Friend 1 - Tau?
Friend 2 - Imperial Guard?
Friend 3 - Blood Angels?
100 pts is no way enough. Some HQ's are worth nearly triple that on their own. Im sorry but your going to need more than 100 pts.

I want to say that kill teams are like ~500pt games (One HQ, two Troops) on a smaller board. Could be wrong though.

I agree that around 500 points is a much better value to start at. The points below probably don't add up but this is the kind of force composition I'd go with. If you're just doing this to introduce them, buy models that give the most bang for your buck:
Friend 1: Imperial Guard (Company Command, Primaris Psyker, 2 Vet squads, Leman Russ - no sense in forcing yourself to buy and paint a ton of guardsmen)
Friend 2: Dark Angels - the Dark Vengeance models are cheap and they're everywhere, go for a shooty build, maybe librarian, tac squad, sniper scouts, dreadnought w/ lascannon + missile launcher
Friend 3: Grey Knights - obvious choice for saving yourself money while letting your friend close with the enemy and crush them

You said no chaos but if I were in your position I would just pick up dark vengeance and the ork half of AoBR. Three cheap armies and may not be the best balance but I think it would fit your needs.

The Kill Team I played was a tournament for a recently opened store. It was to get a feel for 40k interest in the area. This was late in 5th.
We played 200 Points. No armor values allowed. And FoC was about the same as for allies. HQ 0-1, Elites 0-1, Troops 0-2, Fast Attack 0-1, and Heavy Support 0-1. Each model acted as a independent character, unless kept in it's squad. And we played on a 3x3 board.
Missions were a little weird. One was destroying a objective that was av12 all around. It just took a glancing hit. Objects were in middle of field. It was a fast game, go daemons! It was funny because it came to the roll off. Daemons vs. Daemons wasn't good for that mission.
Next one was circle the board. Each unit that circled the board was worth a point.
Last was an assassination mission. Each player had a nob stated scientist and the objective was to kill him.

there are three types of fights i love playing with friends, and they would suit new players really well imo
1) Killteam, i believe the rules were in the 3rd ed BRB, essentially you have 200 points, limited troops on the table (usually a squad maximum) who act as individuals, and the object is usually to kill the other kill team
2) Combat patrol: again, from the 3rd ed BRB, 400 points, no invulnerable saves, no ordnance, 33 max armour on vehicles, 2 wounds maximum, and very loose FO selections, very quick to play, and definately a step up from a killteam
3) The Last Chancers. the 3rd ed guard codex had a unit called the last chancers, or essentially the dirty dozen. the object was for the last chancers to sneak up on, and kill the enemy general, by whatever means necessary. and he just happened to be in the middle of a 1500 point army.
The last chancers are by far my favourite, and are, in addition to being fantastic fun to play with (and against) are a nice set of miniatures to own
