Subject: Sisters of Battle - competitive now?

So SoB seem to have a few tools to make them competitive in 6ed.
The acts of faith and some of the special rules are all decent.
I like both St.Celestine and Uriah Jacobs. I think Celestine with Seraphim and Uriah with an alied IG blob are both pretty strong options.
The troop choice is only battle sisters. They are not terrible (better than vanilla marines and the act of faith is quite decent.
Both exorcists and retributors are pretty decent.
I'm not sure anymore about immolators. They seem to have taken a bit of a hit. Immolator spam is not what it was.
Dominions are okay ... not my favorite unit but ...
I do not run the DCA/Cruasader/Jacobs deathstar but it could be good.
Allies ...
Third at nova with GK - so obviousl;y not a bad choice teaming with Coteaz and Strike squads.
IG brings platoon blobs and a vendetta maybe a manticore.
What is dakka's thoughts on competitive SoB lists?

A lot of people don't give sisters enough credit. Running Celestine with serephim is great. I have ran Jacobus with death cult and crusaders. Those are just mean with what Jacobus gives to them. Retributers eat up what's in range with their rending heavy bolters. Can't be happier with Sisters of Battle.

Celestine is amazing, she effectively had 9 wounds in my last game. She also took out 2 dark angels tac squads on her own.. she's a beast.
Dominions and seraphim are fast and useful, and can threaten most things on a battlefield, but they dont survive long if you dont take care of them.
So far in 6th they seem to be competitive, ive been up against new CSM, DA, C:SM, DE and Tau. In all i been able to hold my own and get decent wins or close loses. I find they are especially good at objective games, especially if FA/HS are scoring.

Are you using allies, immolaters,? Care to share a list? I'm going to test this at 1750:
++Sisters of Battle Primary Force++
HQ: St. Celestine 115 {warlord}
HQ: Uriah Jacobs 90
Troops; 2x Battle Sister Squad; Flamer, Melta, Veteran Sister, Rhino 350
Fast Attack: 7 Seraphim; 2x Hand Flamers, Sister Superior 150
Heavy Support; 2x Exorcist 270
Heavy Support: 5 Retributor Squad; 4x Heavy Bolters 85 {in bastion}
Fortification: Bastion with Icarus Lascannon 110
Total - 1170
++IG Allied Attachment++
HQ: Company Command Squad; Master of Ordinance, Autocannon 90 {top bastion}
Elites:Gaurdsman Marbo 65
Troops: Platoon Command Squad; 4 Meltas 70 {in vendetta}
Troops: 3x Infantry Squad, Plasmagun; Autocannon 225
Fast Attack: Vendetta Gunship 130
Total - 580
It gives me a bit of everything although it is somewhat static. I do have a few reserve tricks, lots of dakka, and a good sized blob for Jacobs. Can it win in a balanced and competitive tournament?

Exorcist is only 3HP, like all other rhino chasis tanks. Sisters really don't need allies to be a solid winning list, my standard list looks like: Canoness inferno pistol, evicorator x2 4 BSS flamer hvy bolter 3 dominion squads, 2 flamer, Immolator 2 exorcist ret squad 4 HB ret squad 4 MM has only lost to a marines player that spammed plasma cannons with preciance They've always been competitive, just overlooked because of age and pricing.

The problem with SoB is that our troop choice really is not very good for anything but camping objectives. It is pretty easy to take down T3 sisters. And why would you not use St. Celestine with her price reduction?

My area runs 1850 and I really want to try GK allies for sisters, I condensed the list down by a lot though so it may have lost most of its meaning. HQ: Celestine Coteaz 3x Jokaero Elite: Vindicare assasin Troops: 2x 10 man Sister squad - MM, melta, CP 5 man GK Strike force - 1 psycannon, daemonhammer, rhino Fast: 7 man Seraphim - 2 Hand flamers, eviscerator Heavy: 5 man Retributor Squad - 4 HB 2 Exorcist 1 Nemesis Dread - Nemesis greatsword, personal teleporter Fortification: Bastion - Icarus Lascannon 4 shots . I have zero idea how to run the GK at all, haha. I may stick with Guard instead.

Re: the MikhailLenin list (which I think is awesome, btw), are Mechanized Sisters pretty much dead? A lot of people are running Sisters on foot now, and I can sort of see the reasons why, but in my games, my Rhinos haven't been completely useless. Is it simply that foot lists are more optimal due to spending less points/fewer drawbacks from vehicle wreckage?
@dpal666: your list actually looks pretty fun. I may have to try it out some day.
Other edit: should we maybe condense this thread into the main SoB Tactics thread, or is it still good as is?

That is the point, I took his list and beat, kicked, and scratched it down to 1850. .

I won't go as far as calling them top-tier, but they got a shift from worthless to decent in 6th, much like Tau...
The changes to some rules just shifted around the effectiveness of enough units by a margin that actually matters...
g0atsticks-to solve your problem, just run count-as marine chapter, "Phoenix Blade" or something, who are madly in love with flamers, and are lead by "The Reborn" (count as celestine), with badass firey wings and whatnot. the "Phoenix Blade" gene seed is a bit damaged, so they are not as tough as your average space marine-but they do got an excessive adrenalin mutation that makes them able to shrug off things that pierce their armor (invul save), and at times of stress they might get superpowered. (AoF)
And then-flame tanks.

The only reason I feel Sisters are competitive is due to the general populaces lack of knowledge about them.
They're without a doubt the "rare" army in current 40k

Well it's not like sisters do anything very unique except for the living saint. They just do some things kinda efficiently.
I wonder what it is about them that has been doing well of late. DCA are a lot worse with crappy power weapons and rhinos not working for assault anymore. Allies help I guess! Scouting melta isn't as good as before. Big troop units with 3+ and bs4 bolters are better so battle sisters feel better.

Faith points, Codex has been out in that WD for a long time now and I still have no idea what they do ...
Celestine is an annoying bugger for sure.
Still though, even with something minor like all their Vehics having a 6+ invul save. If people don't know about it, it'll make you overthink things

Faith points make units better. Some are kinda lackluster without making their faith. Serephim gets reroll to wound, Retributers with rending, Dominons get twin linked which transfers to quad gun. Unfortunitly I forget to give faith points sometimes.

Haven't played that much yet, but 6th edition seems to be more based around shooty armies, and sob is definitely a shooty army. Think the only thing I don't like is how easy it is to give up first blood if one brings rhinos, slightly weighed up by celestine not being the easiest warlord to kill.
I just wish I could buy more unique sister models/units. I have pretty much all I need over 2k points, and I don't feel like adding more points. =/ It seems GW doesn't want money from people like me

The points are sorta mediocre since the ruling that you can't poop a million points into ensuring one units success. The unique upgrades aren't inexpensive or very useful and the army has to rely heavily on allies for blocking for their dumb bricks of rapid fire stuff.
There are certainly lists out there but it's not as easy now that transports aren't as easy to lean on and melta + bolters + reach anti tank are no longer all that is important in life.

Faith is largely an extra and not something to count on, agreed.
Pure sisters can (and do) succeed pretty well, allies are not necessary any more than they are for a number of other armies.
The difference is that you can really focus on points efficiencies with the SOB list and some of the other codexes and then SOB become rather broken.
As an example, running SW as your main list for Cheap HQs, Super efficient troops and Heavies, then go to SoB to pick up Celestine, Seraphim and Rets (while only having to buy one SOB squad) Ouch. The entire army ends up being some of the most favorably costed units in the game.
