So my local hobby shop is getting into Flames of War. I was really liking the idea of a Soviet army. What kinda of options do The soviets have? Also are the Soviet a good army that wont get tabled every time i play them?

It all depends on the era and the list you play with the Soviets (there are always lists that each force has that is the exception to the rule). Many of their lists are based off of their masses of armor and infantry. It should also be noted that their main form of anti tank weaponry is other tanks. Also their tanks are really good n cheap. As for not getting tabled that all depends on how well you play them. In FoW no army is inherently bad or overly nerfed.

Just note that I am speaking in broad generalizations and that there are some exceptions out there.

Another piece of information to keep in mind is that while most other forces in Flames of War operate as companies, with platoons as the main tactical unit, Soviets operate at a Battalion level, with companies as their main tactical unit.

If you are playing Soviets be ready to have loads of units on the table!

Some other things to note: With Soviets, you can get huge numbers of fearless infantry and tanks with many of their lists, but they are usually very easy to kill (being conscript or trained depending on period) and have some special drawbacks (like Hen and Chicks). They also have elite lists (Guards and Naval) that are smaller in number but greater in training.

The soviets have Sappers with PAnzer fausts and Body Armor.

Only a handful of lists have access to those armoured panzerfaust Soviets.
