Been playing against Eldar pathfinders that rend on a 5+ and rending says automatic wound does that mean an automatic glance against armour as well?

No.

It just means that when you are rolling to pen, you get the extra D3 on a 5 or 6.

Also pathfinders do not "rend" on a 5+. What they do is similar but distinctly different in its effect.

Yeah they still rend on 6's . They gain the ability of being ap1 weapons on a 5 or 6.

on a roll to HIT of 5 or 6 they are AP1, and they rend on a roll to wound/pen of a 6
