I've been flcikign through the apoc books and notcied a distinct lack of necron formations (some of the older ones dont seem to wuite mesh with 6th ed rules. funny that).

Anyway, here si one i have made.

I only have it as a powerpoint (dont have a way to convert it to a PDF at work).

Here are the rules:

Annihilation Phalanx
Description: 3-6 Annihilation Barges
Points: 50 + models

The Annihilation Phalanx was devised to counter the ongoing nuisance of organic horde armies akin to the greenskin Orks and the bio-forms known as Tyranids. Able to clear out vast numbers of targets in short order it is the epitome of anti-infantry firepower within the Necron Dynasties, although it has been deployed successfully against Light Armour and Heavy Infantry as well on occasion.
The core of the formation is the Fire Control Barge, this modified Annihilation barge is programmed with additional power distribution sub-routines which enable it to channel the energy from other nearby barges into it's own Tesla coils and unleash a more potent torrent of energy than it would normally be capable of.
The first thing an enemy knows of the Phalanx is the bright build-up of energy as the Tesla Matrix establishes the energy links between the barges. Of course, by this point the targeting information has already been relayed and triple checked. In a another moment the accumulated energy is discharged in a blinding flash as a virtual energy storm is unleashed on the hapless target. While no more powerful than a standard Tesla Destructor, the matrix allows the energy to maintain cohesion for longer, allowing for longer range and an increased volume of Tesla strikes.

Command Vehicle: One Barge in the formation must be designated the Fire Control Barge. Strike Force: All Annihilation Barges in the formation must enter play or be deployed within 12” of the designated Fire Control Barge
Formation Cohesion: In order for the Tesla Matrix to operate, all the barges involved must maintain precise formation. Models in the Annihilation Phalanx by only move at Combat Speed and may not move Flat Out
Tesla Dispersion Field: As the Matrix builds power it emits a growing power field around the formation which disrupts incoming fire. Any Barges within 12” of the Fire Control barge ignore all Stunned and Shaken results from shooting attacks.

Tesla Matrix In any Necron shooting phase, the rest of the formation may choose to forgo their shooting and instead channel all their energy to the Fire Control Barge which then fires with the following profile:
Tesla Matrix - Range: 36*, S7, AP-, Heavy 4*, Tesla**, Arc**, Twin-Linked
*For each Barge in the formation (after the first 3) increase the Range by 6" and the shots fired by 2.
**In addition the Tesla and Arc rules are improved by +1 (so the additional 2 hits are granted on a To Hit roll of a 5+, rather than a 6, and units with 6” are hit by D6 S5 hits on the roll of a 5+)

So, for the cost of 50 points you basically increase the range a chance of extra shots for the barges. The basic strength of the gun stays exactly the same.

I like it, I too lament the lack of necron apoc formations. However, I think this formation should be 100pts + models minimum.

The tesla matrix may also function better as a blast function similar to the fireprism datasheet (where they combine for bigger and bigger blasts). Just a thought.

You also forget, we do have a formation with a lord (overlord now, I guess) and wraiths, that confers a 2++ save within 12 inches of the lord, as well as a S10 apocalypse barrage 2.

We may not have many formations/data sheets, but the ones we do have are absolutely nasty.

I was going to go with using the 10" template but then how would you resolve any the Tesla special rule? My solution was to just give it more shots and better odds to get the Tesla hits.

i think they work out about the same. the smaller the sqaud the more potent the normal tesla rule sare (as you will always get the max number of potential hits, where a tmplate can just do 1 wound per model under the template)

Example (using a full formation of 6 barges):
You hit a squad of 20 boys:
with a S7 10" template = potentially 20 wounds.
with normal tesla shots 9assumign you roll for all your extra hits) = potentially 30 wounds

The main idea behind the unit was to give necrons the option of something longer range rather than high power (i think they have enough high power stuff already).

Saying that - maybe give it an alternate firing mode of 60" Heavy 1, Strength D, tesla?
