After my moronic sister went to a site that allows you to watch free movies (Without using a proxy server ) the laptop came up with an "official" looking message.
Pretty much saying that you'd watched movies illegally and if you don't pay up in 48 hours after seeing this message a criminal case would be made against you. It showed all the details like IP broadband provider and the like, and more worryingly was using the webcam to take pictures that they could use as evidence...

It locked you out of the computer and didn't allow task manager, after some jiggery pokery I passes this and deleted the effected account as I think this is a scam.
The message said to pay using the code displayed onscreen to Ukash or Ucash and your computer would be unblocked.

So is this a scam? Or do the E-Crimes actually block you off the system?
I think it's a scam considering you can't exactly say "Oh I was scammed after I went on a illegal movie download site" to the police.

I've bypassed this and am not blocked, but worried that it could be real and a criminal case could be made.
So fake or real guys?

Thanks in advance

Install a decent anti-virus software while you are at it, otherwise it is just a matter of time until you get infected again...

Bah a simpler idea would to not go on questionable websites without a proxy

That's a scam. The government/companies wouldn't answer a crime with another crime.

No.

The website that your "sister" ( ) visited probably didn't have anything to do with it, and even if it did, going through a proxy wouldn't have stopped your computer becoming infected with a virus/worm in the first place.

The average time for an unprotected machine to become infected with a virus or worm is around 4 minutes and there are some out there that will do stuff allot worse than the one that you got.

I have norton anyway, and kaspersky. Hence why I was a tiny bit stumped as how it got there.
