hello to all

I got myself a kind of commision to paint an entire army of High Elves, the owner told me he want the armors to be like that of tywin lannister

http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/21000000/Tywin-Lannister-game-of-thrones-21005419-500-280.png That color

I kinda manage to put the red but im having trouble with gold. The gold paint i have are too shinny and even with the washes i have (devlan mud and black) i cant reproduce a similar gold. I looked at this model and it has a similar gold to what im looking for

Do any know how to make that gold? or point my in a direction? Im kinda loss here.

Thanks

Maybe avoid gold altogether. If you're looking for a dull, brass finish, maybe try a bright silver color and a reddish/orange wash.

What about the Balthasar gold and a few washes of Nuln Oil?

Well first i went with Gehena gold but i gave me a very shinning gold with spots of red, after a wash of badab black i looked like dirty but not in a good way

Then i try with a wash of gryphonne sepia but it just went orange

then i tried with burnished gold as paint and the previous washes but same thing.

i tried once on another model all my silvers with (ironbreaker,, mythril silver and runefang steel) with a wash of both reikland fleshade and gryphonne sepia and both looked more rusted than dull

To me the GW model doesn't even look to be painted with actual metallics. If you want a more dull than shiny finish, you could try painting with browns with maybe a bit of yellow or white mixed in for highlighting, then to finish it off slightly drybrush your gold over it. Not much, just slightly to give it a tiny bit of shine.

That looks like the old (very old) shining gold, Coat D'arms has it, but I don't know what the color's name is now.

If I want a flatter gold I just mix a bit of regular paint with gold. If I want it more yellow I add yellow, if I want a dark gold I add a bit of black.

You could try adding a dark brown to your gold, then highlighting with pure gold

I don't think that the Chaos beastie is metallic gold - more like a dark bone colour.
I'd go with a bright gold, and then several washes of Gryph's Sepia and then a couple of Devlan Mud. Or, a mid chestnut brown, Devlan wash and then drybrush with gold.

The gentleman in the picture doesn't have gold on his armor. That's patinaed brass.

I recommend P3s Brass Balls, a Gryphonne Sienna wash, and some spot shading with Badab Black/Nuln Oil in the joints. Finish it off with Testor's Dullcote to knock off the shine.

I think I'd use a brass color with a deep gold mixed in, at maybe a 3:1 brass:gold ratio. Then I'd wash with Liquitex burnt sienna ink, which I use on most of my golds. It gives a really rich brownish red tint to golds that I think would work here.

Just my $.02, I wouldn't really know without trying it. But that'd be my first attempt at replicating that color.

Vallejo bronze, null oil wash, highlight by adding chain mail to bronze.

my guess is that that forgefiend is non-metallic metal and is a bit complicated to reproduce and time consuming for a tabletop comission painting. What i would do to get a similar effect is to use your regular gold and use matt varnish over it in thin layers untill you have your desired effect. I can't open your first link, I can only see the forgefiend model.

Hope I could help

I'd probably try starting with boltgun (or equivalent) mixed with brown to get the right colour without too much shine. A wash if needed then add silver to your mix to highlight. TBH I think you're just going to have to do some experimenting!
