So I'm thinking of buying something from forgeworld. But the thing is, all i have is a debit card. For one reason or another, I can't buy forgeworld stuff from their website, which is exactly where i want to buy it from. The first time i tried, I was declined. My bank called me a day later and had put a hold on my account because money was being spent in England, where I am not located. I can understand that, but after verifying that it was in fact me making those purchases to my bank, i attempted again, and again the order was declined.

Now I'm thinking that my only option is to buy a prepaid visa or master card and buy it with that, as they will not block the account form buying stuff in England. Only problem is, I'm not sure that Forgeworld takes visa/mastercard debit cards (which are the only prepaid cards i can buy). I've read on forums that people have used debit cards to buy from them, but I'm thinking that they might just have a credit card linked to their account. I've looked on the Forgeworld Site, and it says this:
Payment can be made by:
Credit card. (We can currently accept VISA or MasterCard. Sorry, we do not accept American Express.) Debit Card. (We can currently accept Maestro, Solo, Delta and Electron.)

Now I'm looking at this and i find that it seems that they don't take visa/mastercard credit cards. And i don't think they would take the prepaid debit cards.

My questions are:

Has anyone run into this problem before?
Does anyone have a solution for me? (I cannot find what i'm looking for on ebay, it is an item that is rarely bought)
Keep in mind that i do have paypal, i can go out and purcahse a card from walmart-walgreens-cvs etc..., i would rather not give out my ssn for them if at all possible.

Let me know what you guys think,

Actually, it does say that it takes Visa and MasterCard.

A pre-paid debit card is much like a regular credit card so long as the value of what you want to buy is not above what is in the account.

It's not a prepaid one, but I have a visa debit card linked to my bank account and havn't had problems ordering from forgeworld, not quite the same thing as a prepaid card but similar, and also not on "accepted" list the provide.

Have you tried emailing customer service and asking?

It's pretty outdated too, as to my knowledge none of the UK banks issue Maestro cards anymore, they've dumped it for Visa Debit. In fact I haven't seen a Solo or Electron card in a long while either.

Oh and Visa dropped the Delta name forever ago.

I doubt you'll have a problem, but if you want to check, call as FW are well known for being lousy with emails.

Are accepted anywhere MasterCard or Visa are

In short, a prepaid card replaces debit, cash, and checks with a credit card that you fund before you ever use. So it's like a credit card you have already paid the credit limit for and thusly is tied to how much you pay up front before you ever use it.

Probably work

I've tried using my bank-issued card for Forgeworld and it is declined. My credit card works fine.

They'd probably have a frightening amount of my money if they took paypal.

Seriously, that way everyone that received money from trading on websites like this and bartertown would just buy forgeworld stuff if they needed it. They would get a lot more business

I suspect, but don't know, that the issue US customers have with debit cards is down to your more diverse banking system. Most of Europe is run by a handful of massive banks and their affiliates, making online international authorisation a lot less complex. Just a theory though.

I have this same problem. My mastercard bank card will not go through, but my visa goes through just fine.

My neteller issued card works fine for any and all online transactions using mastercard - including forgeworld.
It's more convenient than prepaid cards, too IMO (though I've heard better things about paypal cards for residents of those countries where they're available).

Have the same problem when the transaction goes over some arbitrary amount, the large international purchase gets flagged by the automated fraud detection system and rejected. But then I get an email saying "your card has been flagged, call this number" and just have to call their fraud department to unlock the purchase. If it's still being flagged after you've confirmed the legitimacy of the purchase it's probably some kind of error, and you should call your bank's customer service to get it fixed.

There's this really annoying thing called "Verified by Visa" that you sometimes need to set up for purchases outside the country. You might try calling your bank and asking them if that's whats preventing the order.

Interesting. Thing is, I bought a pre-paid visa debit (in the form of a gift card), realized just minutes after i bought it that it didn't work for forgewold. I then proceeded to attempt to return it, where i was promptly told that i had to call a customer service line to return it. I then was told after 30 minutes of talking that a check would be mailed to me within 8-10 days for a refund. Thing is, I don't have enough money to buy the forgeworld thing now that my money is in the mail... So i can't get the forgeworld thing before christmas and i don't have any money to buy anything else with for a while... Kind of sucks

down south

the walmart moneycard is basically a prepaid debit card. Ive used it for antenocitis workshop purchases which is in england. I think there was a small international transaction fee.
