With my Para's on hold till the release of the new books, I had a look through my old books and wanted to collect a Welsh Guards Recce Force. As the Welsh were the smallest and most junior unit they were made the armoured Recce Unit of the Vanguard of XXX Corps.

Here is my list, it probably isn't competitive but hell, for me this is aesthetic thing.

HQ
2 x CROMWELL IV (+ CROMWELL ARV)
COMBAT PLAT
1 x GUARDS Armoured Recce (2 CROMWELL with 1 CHALLENGER)
1 x GUARDS Armoured Recce (2 CROMWELL with 1 CHALLENGER)
WPS PLAT
1 x Guards RECCE (4 x STUART VI)
BRIGADE SUPPORT
1 x GUARDS Infantry Platoon ( FULL + 2 Trucks)
1 x GUARDS Pioneer Unit (FULL)
DIV SUPPORT
1 x FIELD BATTERY (8 x OQF 25lbs)

1750 (CONF/VET)

My thoughts, my AT is beefed up by the Challengers, but I think at the high end I'm lacking AT.... I was tempted by 4 x M10C 17lbs and dropping to 3 Cromwells in each Platoon and dropping the Recce to be the 100 point Bren Carrier platoon.

The Alternative List being :-

This give a bit more high end AT.



Yours thoughts

Looks good to me(both lists).What are you going to use for AA? or does your opponents use any Aircraft?

AA....er hugging terrain and that;s about it. I'm willing to take the hits, is there a Priority Air support option in Late War German lists?

I'm not a fan of AA in Hell's Highway as all British AA Units are static so are useless in a Mobile force. I could mount AA Machine guns on some Stuarts to cover it.

Not worth the effort IMO.

I prefer the first list, it is more concentrated.

I do too, but a little part of my mind is saying that i have only two tanks with a higher AT value of 13 e.g the Challengers . And they will be "Gun tanked" and taken out as priority like a Sherman Firefly... just got to manoeuvre for side armour!!
