Hi guys, looking to expand into a new army, and I was looking at codex marines. I know they aren't hyper competitive, but they CAN do everything, so I wanted to try them out, see what I can do.
That being said, i don't know a terrible lot about them. So bear with me and be liberal with the feedback...Thanks!

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum.

One technicality is that the Sternguard aren't troops, just scoring, but the army is still 100% legal so it doesn't really matter. I would recommend using Auto/Las predators instead of Auto/HB. You can lose some of those power swords for the points

With only one HQ, he can't go double FOC, so the sternguard and dreads make for 5 elite picks.

I'm not a huge fan of anything that take the special ammo away from the sternguard, so would take combi meltas rather then meltaguns. Heavy flamers are OK, as they work vs. almost everything. I also run a lot lighter on combis then most people, as I take the sternguard for the special ammo, not the ability to spam combi weapons. YMMV.

MM dreads want their own drop pods. If you are going to walk them across the table, go for something with more range.

Dakka preds are good, but I'm a big fan of the auto/las. With all the sternguard, anything walking around is going to be toast, you need to work on the stuff with tracks.

Sorry guys, in my noobishness to Marines, i made a few mistakes.
My friend who calculated the points forgot the drednaughts completely
I didn't realize the sternguard did not count as troops, just as scoring
I've re-tooled the list to make it legal. Apologies.

Would you suggest then dropping the combi weapons? I could shave off quite a few points doing so, and relying on the Special Ammo instead. Maybe fit some fast attacks in with the savings?
