Looking to make a 1750 salamanders list as the title says. I'm out of town right now so no codex on me. Points are based off memory so forgive me if they are a bit off & please correct me if I'm wrong.
HQ:
Vulkan
190
Master of the Forge
-conversion beamer
120
Troops:
Tac Squad x10
-ML, flamer, combi flamer
170
Tac Squad x10
-ML, flamer, combi flamer
170
Scouts x5
-camo cloaks, sniper rifles
90
Elite:
Ironclad Dread
-MM, HF, drop pod
180
Sternguard x5
-HF, combi melta x4, drop pod
190
FA:
Attack Bike
-MM
50
Attack Bike
-MM
50
Attack Bike
-MM
50
Heavy Suppory:
Dreadnought
-TL autocannon x2
125
Dreadnought
-TL autocannon x2
125
If my memory serves me right this comes out to 1510. I know that typical salamander lists tend to lack long range fire support so that's why I went with the rifleman dreads. The MoTf was required for me to fit them with the inclusion of the Ironclad & sternguard unit. Since I had the MoTf I figured I would have him help with firepower so that's why I gave him the conversion beamer.
I opted for 3 MM AB to support the podding units. I want to get another pod so I can have 2 drop first turn. I'm thinking of adding one of 4 units:
Dual HF dread
Thunderfire cannon
Devestator squad with 4 ML
Riflman dread
All units can take a pod, but I don't like the idea of an empty pod just to get 2 first turn but it does have its uses. Any suggestions on what to do with the remaining points? Again, any C&C is welcome & accepted. Thanks in advance!

I'm not a fan of 2x DPs; you'll only get one come in on your first turn. At the very least, include one more DP, eve if it's empty, so that when you have to deploy half (rounded up) you will get both your Sternguard and your Ironclad at the same time. Otherwise, if they come it one at a time they will be picked off too easily after their alpha strikes. But if they both come in at the same time, it's more likely they will cause some additional damage. At 180 and 190 points, both are very expensive for anti-armour suicide squads, so you'll want them to get well over their points cost in damage, and at present the best each will bring you is a trade-off for a Land Raider. However, if either unit can survive beyond the alpha strike, then you should be able to cause some chaos in the backfield.

I agree with you on the 2 drop pods which is why I stated I wanted to add another, even if it was empty even though an empty one wasn't my ideal choice. Any suggestions on what to add with the remaining points to compliment the list or any changes?

Well, just so you know where my head is at, this is what I consider to be an ideal core for a Vulkan list:
Vulkan
dread- mm, heavy flamer, drop pod, locator beacon
dread- mm, heavy flamer, drop pod, locator beacon
5x terminators- TH/SS
tac squad- mm, melta, combi-melta, drop pod
tac squad- mm, melta, combi-melta, drop pod
tac squad- mm, flamer,combi-flamer, drop pod
tac squad- mm, flamer, combi-flamer, drop pod
2x land speeders- mm, heavy flamers
2x land speeders- mm, heavy flamers
2x land speeders- mm, heavy flamers
So the closer you can get to this, the better. This will get your entire army right in your opponent's face. And I think this comes in around 1490ish, so you've stil got some room to play with.

I second the list that Azazel the Cat put up, its filth in 1500. Though personally I would perhaps drop a land speeder to get pts to boost those two dreads up to Ironclads as they are much more survivable, but thats just me.
The original list you posted up is ok, but I am always confused by Riflemen in Vulkan lists. Vulkan is the only marine list where you should be taking MM/HF dreadnoughts over riflemen, as they are consistent with their damage against high value targets. I would also either take 8 or more Sternguard, or none at all as they are too expenisve to do things in half measures

Thanks for the replies so far, it has been a great help. I will go back to the drawing board with the suggestions and see what I come up with. Thanks again

I'm a fan of Razorbacks, but Vulkan lists don't need them. To really utilize the flamers & melta, you need to be right up in your opponent's hostile little face, and a Razorback might take you three turns to get there. Drop Pods will get half of your army there in 1, and if you're causing enough pain right away, you can just use the remaining pods to drop straight onto objectives.

Agreed that razorbacks are nice, but Vulkan buffing flamers & meltas requires you to be up close & personal & drop pods are the most effective way to do that.

Your points cost is way off.

5x terminators- TH/ SS 200
tac squad- mm, melta, combi-melta, drop pod 220

tac squad- mm, flamer,combi-flamer, drop pod 215

2x land speeders- mm, heavy flamers 140
2x land speeders- mm, heavy flamers 140

That comes out to 2000 points even, not 1490ish. Automatically Appended Next Post: Caranthir987 wrote:I second the list that Azazel the Cat put up, its filth in 1500. Playing that list at 1500 would indeed be filth because it is 2000 points.
