This might seem like a random question but I want to have a salamanders company fight alongside my chapter in their fluff background info. But both armies are In different segmentums. Would it be appropriate to say that perhaps the salamanders fleet was hunting down a rogue imperial fleet and was in the area nearby when my chapter was requiring aid for a huge ork attack?

And is it common or acceptable for different chapters to assist each other?

Maybe Chaos Daemons are so angry all the time because despite their near infinite intelligence they can't seem to forge anything more complex than a sword, an axe, or a staff

Why don't you just have a company fight by their side, or do you need the whole chapter?

But I have have no morsel to share, nor anything to eat. But wait, what is that stickiness upon your feet.
Ah now I have you, now I can eat. Now I can enjoy you, or store you as meat.

No problem with that. In fact it would make for a grand tale

But would it be believable for the salamanders company to travel such a great distance into another segmentum? I just want their famous campaign against the ork invasion to be justifiable.

Sure, just go with the rouge fleet idea that they chased through hell and high water because_____? I'm it would be grand.

Salamanders will do just about anything at the drop of a hat if it will help them find one of the lost relics of their primarch, maybe you could use that.

I agree, If the Salamanders believed this rogue fleet held one of the lost relics they would certainly follow it great distances.

That would make an awesome story. though honestly i don't think space marines have jurisdiction they go where they are needed. though that is just my understanding. but ya it would make an awesome story, i would love to read it when its written.

Thanks everyone for your support! Imperial fists and salamanders are my favorite loyalists so I wanted to make my chapter somehow associated with them. Not sure if I will make them try to hunt down one of the relics because I'm trying to not make my stories over epic.

Well dont end your story with lysander carving his chapter master's name in mortarion's heart and you should be golden.

Yeah, that idea works fine. In fact, it sounds like a neat campaign set up to me.
