So I like my Running everyday, But the problem is we are hitting cold weather time in california right now. I have never ran in the winter before and i find it very difficult. I know we have some people with a wealth of knowledge here so im wondering what is the best way for me to go about it? The problem is my forearms and ears tend to freeze, and my lungs and nose burn from the cold air. My typical exercise outfit is a t-shirt and shorts(my legs tend to not freeze though.)

I used to run in leggings. The cold can really make you miss potential niggle and injuries to the legs, so I would suggest covering your legs as well.
As for the top half of your body I would suggest layering you can get cotton tops which tightly hug your body, releasing sweat and keeping you warmer without being uncomfortable. Gloves are a given, as is a hat of some kind.
A mask of some kind could also keep the cold off your face without impairing too much performance, should also aid you breathing in freezing cold air. Try a scarf as well. Nothing is worse than breathing in cold air, especially when trying to run into the wind.
I opted out of wearing things like hoodies as the weight bugged me, the same for tracksuit or shell suit tops. YMMV of course.

It's about 16 F today so maybe forget everything I say. You need leggings or sweats, don't wreck your legs by putting impact on them while they are chilled.
The nose burning might be your fault. Breathe slowly! It doesn't matter what the temperature is, hold the breaths for a couple paces and exhale slowly to push warm air through your nose.
Wear anything you want! I wear a flannel shirt or a sweater even in the spring, because it's dumb to have a special running outfit for non competitive or less than ten miles.

Here's a novel idea: wear a jacket and cover your nose and mouth. It's not rocket science.

Idk about others, but I would suggest not wearing cotton...
Cotton holds moisture, you want something that is going to pull it off your body and then get rid of it. I'm not a runner, but I used to do winter camping trips regularly, and cotton was the absolute last thing I wanted in my pack.
Quick research (i.e. google) has led me to his:

Useful tips, especially the part about "technical fabrics" a secondary search has led me to this:

Cotton ain't no where to be found.

That is a common misconception.
You do not get sick by being cold.
No matter how many times your mother and grandmother told you not to go out in the cold because you would catch a cold or the flu, it just doesn’t work that way.
Getting a cold is caused by a virus, not by sweating when it is cold outside.
If being cold made you sick the people in Alaska would never be healthy.

At the whopping 40 degrees it's even be relatively comfortable, assuming the cops don't catch you
Honestly, even in Cali, a light sweatshirt and sweat pants. I'm assuming it's not actually freezing temperatures (since so little of cali hits those). Most of the recommendations on here would be more towards running in freezing temperatures.

What sport are you training for? Just try HITT or browse Bodybuilding.com for general fitness information if you want to get your cardio up and cut some bf% off.
I stop jogging in the winter and switch to cycling (Which is year round for me). Ski Mask/Cap, Underarmor and Sweatpants/bike shorts. I'd pick up a ski mask if its under 30 degrees. Tag a bag along for a change of schools if you want to commute somewhere. I have asthma - this acts up in the winter and wrecks my cardio in comparison to a few USMC guys I run with. Depends if you're running in combat boots or running shoes. The distance also matters, if I'm going for a 30-50 ride, I'll dress in the same gear as a 5 mile ride, just with a pack. With jogging? anything over 3 miles I'm dressing in MUCH heavier clothes. Jog yesterday I decided not to wear gloves, 5 miles in I felt terrible about everything with chilling wind scraping them up. Jogging 1-2 miles? You can just t-shirt/shorts it in above freezing temp.
Gloves/ski mask should do it. Invest in underarmor pants to toss under your prefered pants.

In NJ it's around 30-40 most of the winter. If you dress correctly, cycling/jogging is never really an issue. Anything about 15-20 degrees is fine if there isn't much wind.

Look into a nice pair of combat boots! It'll take you a bit to break them in but the ability to run in boots is something most individuals should have. See if you have any local military brahs to run with you then
I prefer knee high socks and heavier cross trainers, you feel a lot lighter then the clunky feel you get with boots. Preference there.

@Auxellion
I was mostly taking a piss. I grew up in SoCal and lived there til about 2 years ago. In Ventura county there was a very, very breif time each year that it might get down to 26-28 degrees but it was rare. Cold in SoCal generally means high 40's to low 50's. Which means no issues with running or biking.
I now live in Minnesota. And here it's a good idea to understand what is needed to run in winter since the average is generally below 30 for several months. That said I agree that even down to 15-20 without wind isn't to bad to just jog in sweats. Then again, I shovel snow in my shorts

Just browse the bb.com forums and try High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), you'll get a lot more results then hour long jogs in the winter. Get you're diet on track and you'll barely need cardio. (I'm a PT when I'm not doing cubical activities, HIIT works for clients much better then "Hey go on that treadmill for an hour").
Hell, try /fit/ on 4chan if you need some tips, thats actually what got me into personal training and bodybuilding!

The only change that I make is that I wear a long sleeved running top. I still wear shorts and I will go out as long as it isn't actually freezing and the ground is safe to run on. You can't really get away from the cold air hurting your lungs but to be honest I find that I feel better after a winter run than a summer run.
Interval training is really good. However it is difficult (or at least it should be) so if you are the sort of person who endures rather than enjoys excersize its probably better to stick to jogging.

45 degrees isn't cold. Put on a sweat shirt or long sleeve tee. You'll be fine.
A wind breaker over a regular tee would be fine if it's around 45 and windy.

I'm fairly jealous. I've been trying to bike back and forth from work a few times a week, about to bite the bullet and ride back in some seriously chill wind without my windbreaker. If it wasn't for the wind, I wouldn't really care about the cold.
Cycled a race in Boston - zero wind @ 20 degrees the whole time. Felt fine after 20 minutes of riding.

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.
