So right now my friend hasn't come up with a 2000 pt list yet, but hes got kinda a basis of a 2500 pt list for the swarm lord.

HQ
Swarm lord
x3 tyrant guard

x2 flyrants with 2 sets of twinlink devours each

Elites

x3 hive guard

x3 hive guard

Doom of malanti in spore

x3 zoanthropes in spore

Troops

x14 termigaunts

x2 termigant squads of 20 with devours, each having spore

1 tervigon catalyst

Fast attack

x14 gargoyles
x13 gargoyles

For the swarmlord and the flyrants my friend is going to be using biomancy to buff them up.

Is it also possible to use the swarmlord in a 2000pt list? If so what should my friend do to use the swarmlord effectivly in a 2000pt list.

For a 2000 point game, I would recommend another scoring unit - namely a Tervigon with Catalyst and TS at minimum. I'm not sure I understand the full meaning or value of "squadron with tyranid prime " I'll assume this means you picked a Tyranid Prime and are putting it with your Swarmlord and Tryant Guard. If which case, I'm not sure why as I believe the damage value there is minimal. I would consider shaving both the Prime and a Tyrant Guard in favor of working up to a second Tervigon.

The Mycetic Spore plan isn't a bad one and the Swarmlord provides assistance to that with his reserves bonus. I think at 2000 points he's officially 'allowable' by my own standards, as he's a pricey choice.I think the Devilgaunt drop spam is a solid choice, Gargoyles are fantastic, and Hive Guard usually carry their own. Hope that helps.

You are correct with the tyranid prime, I had posted in the tactics section and some people suggested throwing the prime with the swarmlord to allocate wounds around to make the lord more survivable.

At 2000 point level I believe the 2 tervigons would be his choice as well.

The devilgaunts in pods is probably one of his better strategies as it rapidly deploys a squad of units to destroy a unit and it wont be harmed in the way of rushing up the board.

We also figured that 2 separate squads of bats instead of 1 big one would give our opponents more to shoot at and could give us 2 separate screens to give cover saves to the bigger nastier units.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated!

I totally understand the fear of losing your powerhouse-warlord, but at some point you have to stop and reconsider the points being dropped into the squad. 3 Tyrant Guard (180) and a Prime (80) nets 260 for a 260 point HQ - that's too harsh as much as I'd like to see him survive. If you drop the Prime and a single Guard that gives you 140 to reinvest into more mid-map power that should also in itself keep your Swarmlord alive.

I've always flip-flopped about 2-3 Zoanthropes in a spod. Statistical likeliness of vehicle debilitation and all that.

I agree with your separate Gargoyle squad tactic. Although carrying through with that logic, you should be able to find 18 points somewhere to up the quantity to 30, allowing 3 groups of 10.

Ahhh correct! When my friend was going over the list we took out a squad of devilgaunts in a pod out for some bats to screen with so I will discuss with my friend and see what he would change up. But yes we did have 4 squads of 20 devil gaunts in pods before we through some bats it. But we will fix it!

Thanks for the comments and the catch on the list!

Updated and now we have removed the prime for more termigaunts for 4 troops choices.
