Except cargo pants make you look like a moody teenager or a "bro"

Lol, sorry I couldn't resist the man purse comment and you are correct cargo pants are kinda stupid unless utilized in an outdoor/camping setting once you get older. God you just made me feel old I suppose I should go buy a man bag now.

I'm worried about looking like I'm worried about my image, if that makes sense. Mostly though, I've noticed I tend to have a poor grasp on reality, so I figured I'd get a second guess. Thought it would make good conversation and stuff.

If you're old, you should get a fanny pack instead. Everyone knows that the only things you can actually store in cargo pants are tater tots and cans of mountain dew.

The attitude that you shouldn't care about how you look to others is bit immature. Your image has a lot to do with how you present yourself, and is thus, important.

If it has man in the name to justify it's masculinity just assume it's for undecided gay people and stay clear, unless you fit in that category

I got a cheap nylon messenger bag at Gencon last year out of desperation for needing some extra room to carry my stuff around. It's become my new D&D bag, and I find myself using it at least once a week to that end. I'm likening it to a laptop bag, and sometimes use it for that.

Having that been said, I'm thinking about picking up a nice leather one from esty. Partly because it's a nice hand made leather one, and partly because it will go with my leather pouches at ren faires/conventions. I'm wondering though, do guys actually wear these things around? I'm trying to mentally balance the fact that it's awesome I have a bag for my tablet, dice, and etc., and the fact that I feel like I'm carrying a purse.

Dakka, help me be more secure in my masculinity!

There's a fine line between feminine and masculine in bags. I happen to think if you get a leather shoulder bag that could potentially be used as a soft suitcase you are golden. Anything else is metro. So is buying anything from Coach.

The second one is just fine - nothing effete about it. I have 10+ fashion merchandising experience with Neimans and Nordstrom, if that helps.

I have a couple messenger bags - one G-Star, one Tumi. Diesel makes some decent ones too. Not a big fan of Jack Spade.

This problem could be easily avoided if you just buy a back pack.

I carry my laptop in a backpack.
It has a pocket for it, padding and moisture wicking fabric (so my back and shoulders don't get soaked with sweat). It gets removed (the backpack) for travel (so I don't smack people in the head when I turn around). I can reach the two side and the top pocket without removing the pack from my back though.

It's also quite well balanced and I can run with it on if I need to.

Satchels just hang wrong.

I've never had a problem with my satchel hanging wrong, unless it was really cold out. *looks around* Sorry...this thread is not what I thought it was about. I carry a messenger bag and laptop bag myself. Both fit my needs, and look like an oversized purse (with skulls on the messenger bag).

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

It probably hangs wrong on me because I've become used to the backpack (had one at school - which was the 80s.) and Satchels hadn't yet attained that status they have now (and Grunge was yet to happen - it was a good time).

Outside of the workplace where I'm required to dress at least semi professionally, or any bar with a dress code, I can't think of any time my image has been important. But then, I'm still a beach bum at heart and will gladly walk the business center on a work day in thongs (flip flops to non-Aussies), cargo shorts and a well worn t-shirt given the chance.

Love my manbags over the years.

Nowadays they are how I get stalked at cons.

Once I was at the doctor's office and I was sitting by an obviously
gay man. He was sporting a manbag, too!

Except his was Louis Vuitton.

I'm just fine with my crumplr.

In my opinion a man purse is any bag that looks like a purse (duh) or a messenger bag that is square or tall rather than wide.

I used to use a basic laptop messenger bag, I plan to upgrade to a leather laptop messenger to look a bit more professional. I stopped using backpacks after high school, they seem less convenient for my purposes.

So what is that supposed to be again? I feel like I've looked at the picture as an avatar forever and I still can't make out what it is.

I use one all the time when I am off by myself, why? Because it matches my eyes, and mostly because a girl told me to wear it or else should would hunt me down... (Gotta love my sis....)
