I decided to paint up some random chapters to decide what army I want to paint. I think I have found what I will build - Sons of Medusa.

This guy is my first and he was my test model. I am actually quite happy with him and I will start painting up a tactical squad next. You probably will notice I don't have the chapter symbol but I know my skills and I cannot freehand it. If I can figure out how to get a decal or stencil of the symbol I will be adding them otherwise they will be blank.

I am planning on varnishing this guy, I had a question on what kind I should use. I heard if you use a matte varnish it turns metal into a grey color? If anyone has any input on that I would really appreciate it.

You may notice I tried to steal a lot of Ideas from grey_death and I feel like he isn't as good but I think it turned out better than expected. If you haven't seen grey_deaths sons of medusa I would recommend it as they are amazing!

Thanks for looking! C&C always welcome.

The colors look awesome, love the contrast between the white and green, Also the "metal" tone goes well with the colors.

Very nice! When I varnish, I use gloss because I was told that it protects better, then matte after that to kill the shininess. Good luck, he looks amazing.

I love it !

Only piece of C&C : i'd use a brighter colour on the eyes, to highlight the battered look of the armour.

Looks great, especially the slightly battered look.

The regular Space Marine transfer sheet has a decal with a black skull, white background, black outer circle.
Add the 8 star-lines and it's done, friend of mine does that all the time.

Looks amazing. The battle damage is brilliant, typically when you see battle damage it is either overdone or poorly done and this is neither. That is a beautifully painted marine and i would love to see more when you are finished.

Cheers

Hopefully one day i'll have an army!

Thanks! That is what I was thinking but wasn't sure, but now I will give that a shot.

Of Course, it is really easy

1- Grey Vallejo surface primer
2- Coated everything with Moot (Scorpion) Green
3- Washed the whole model with Thrakka Green
4- Highlighted the model with thinned down Moot green until I had the desired color

That is a fantastic idea! I am going to have to experiment with this to see how it looks.

Thanks! I am just about finishing on the mold lines on my new Tactical Squad box so if I have enough time hopefully I will have them painted and finished within a couple weeks.

Love it! You did a really good job on making the light green and white (both difficult colors to paint) look very smooth and authentic looking. I also love the subtle weathering.

Love it. It's a great chapter that doesn't get a whole lot of play, so you can reliably be the only one fielding it, but at the same time it's common enough that people will still know it. It fits great into that particular narrow space. Specifically to this model, you've done a phenomenal job shading the white helmet (which is an absolute beast to get right...) and doing the metal bits. I like that the model is good enough to stand on its own, without being so ostentatious that it will distract from the showpieces in your army.

As to your question, I've never had matte varnish change my metallics. I suppose it might dull the finish a little bit, but not so much that it turns silver into grey.
