So last night was playing a game and faced the doom again, as the gun doesnt have a leadership and is ignored for leadership tests as per the rule book the tech marine does the test, how are the wounds allocated, to the closed model first which would be the gun or to the techmarine?.
Also how does the doom affect, if at all, artillery that isnt manned, i.e quad gun or hyperios (automated artillery)

They are not a vehicle, so they must make a leadership test. Wounding allocation rules make no exceptions, so it should be closest model taking the wounds.
The rules do say to ignore artillery models for the purposes of leadership tests (treat them as if they weren't there), so anytime the model is truly on its own I would expect the test to be ignored.
There may be an argument for zero or "-" characteristics always failing, but I think the exception mentioned above covers it.

ok so if it did fail the leadership, surely it would take no wounds as the amount it fails by is the wounds it takes.
i did think it would be closet model first but my opponent said it wasnt, ended up rolling a d6 to decide

Not quite sure on the first part. Why wouldn't it take wounds?
nothing says otherwise, so it would be closest first.

Because how can you test on something it doesnt have?, leadership tests dont have auto fail do they?

But the unit does have a LD score, as the Techmarine has a LD score.

Actually I'm pretty sure DR is correct on this.
The tech is part of the unit with the TFC, the Tech has a LD Value, so therefore the unit has one and has to use the highest applicable ( IIRC)

I was thinking of a quad gun. Artillery is not sentinient.

There are two questions in the first post, one refers to the techmarine, the leadership question clearly does not as stated.

Any artillery with crew would be effected which is pretty much all of them. Raw highest leadership is the crew, roll on that and apply wounds as normal to whatever is closest.
There are a few automated guns
like Hyperion missiles, and I'm not sure how to handle them.
Quad guns are not artillery or units, they are terrain pieces that can be destroyed. They are not an enemy unit, and therefore wouldn't be included in the doom's leadership bubble.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.
