I´m planning a diorama piece. A loyalist Space Marine executing a Night Lords traitor marine. My question is, which chapter has the most grudge against the Night Lords? I have never actually liked the Night Lords paint scheme, but by accident I´ve gathered a helmet and two shoulder pads from them. Never gonna use them for anything and my idea is so awesome that I can´t wait to build and paint it. I´m playing Blood Angels but I would like to get the best vengeance diorama possible, hence my question:-).

Please use some (official) background story to describe why Chapter X would be the best choice.

Thanks dudes and dudettes!

The dark angels are known to have an axe to grind with them judging on the words and blows exchanged in savage weapons in the book age of darkness. Can't think of any others off the top of my head, sorry.

Come into my web, said the spider to the fly.
Come rest your wings, and let us talk eye to eye.
For I am a spider, and you are the fly. Now that you are here, let us sit, and say hi.
But I have have no morsel to share, nor anything to eat. But wait, what is that stickiness upon your feet.
Ah now I have you, now I can eat. Now I can enjoy you, or store you as meat.
For I am the spider, and you are the fly. How else could it have gone, between one such as you, and one such as I.

Dark Angels plus the 3 Legions wiped out at the Drop Site Massacre (Iron Hands, Salamanders, Raven Guard), because the Night Lords turned on them there.

May I ask why my beloved 1st Legionnaires would hold a grudge against them? (beyond the obvious fact that they are good at holding grudges) I'm unaware of that part of the Fluff.

Also Soul Hunter novels hint at a Blood Angel vs Night Lords hate-hate relationship, if novel fluff is kosher to you.

Read Prince of Crows and Collected Visions.
Basically when Heresy started Curze and Night lords trolled Dark Angels for weeks, and when they finally meet to battle on some planet Curze told Lion that now that he was unable to reach Terra in time that the loyalty of his Legion will always be in question. Lion thinking that his honor was insulted start fighting him and almost died, but not before one of his men stab Curze in his back and thus saving him. The rest of their escort too their Primarch and retreated, the lion was so angry that he didn't stop until he killed every last Night Lord in that sector. But by the time he has done that the Battle for Terra was almost over and the rest is history.

Basically, it was because Night Lords trolling that Dark Angels failed to participate in Battle for Terra. And they are not very pleased because of that.

I'd go with Raven Guard, Curze tried to single out and kill Corax during the dropsite massacre

Well, the Night Lords turned traitor at the Istvaan IV Drop Site Massacre, (Salamanders, Iron Hands, Raven Guard.)

A cool idea would be to have a Raven Guard Jump Jet soldier, perched on a rock, slashing the neck of the traitor marine.

Or, a Salamander holding a flamer one-handed, toasting the Night Lord.

By bolter and honour, by blood and fire, we shall cleanse this galaxy. By Vulkan, and by the Emperor, CHARGE!

Yo Dawgs, I heard you like grimdark, so I put grimdark in yo grimdark in yo grimdark in yo universe that is obviously grimdark.

I'd go Imperial Fist, given the hatred they hold for traitors/heretics of any sort, and the fact that Night Haunter put the smack-down on Dorn. There is also the potential for a great color contrast, with the Imperial Fist being the color of the Sun, and the Night Lord in the colors of midnight. Hell, just make him Sigismund, who sorta-kinda betrayed his Primarch's trust just to be on Terra during the final battle, and as the Emperor's Champion, has a big-ass sword and killed a lot of traitors during the Siege.

Raven Guard jump out at me. On Istvaan V Corax was just about to deliver the killing blow to Mortarion when Curze intervened and stopped him. I'd say the momentum gained by killing one of the traitor Primarchs may have saved many more loyalist lives that day, but Curze turning traiter sealed their fate.

It's flimsy, but it's the best I can think of.

small correction, Corax was about to kill Lorgar (not Mortarion) when Curze intervened.
I dunno, sure he stopped Corax from killing another traitor primarch but I dont think the raven guard hate the night lords more than any other traitor legion just because of that.
not familiar with the other bits of fluff so I can't really comment on that but the fists seem likely what with them almost losing their primarch to them

Thanks for the catch, I felt like Mortarion was wrong, but he was the only one I could think of.

The Nightlords themselves played a relatively minor roll after the massacre. They didn't really get any major grudge matches going. So that was really the only thing I'm aware of that maybe would have fit.

I don't remember where I read this, but I think I saw somewhere that Curze is meant to have captured and imprisoned Vulkan at some point...?

In addition to which, I think the Salamanders are supposed to be very big on the whole nice to normal humans thing, which seems a bit of a contrast to the Night Lords.

If you really, REALLY, want to get the best picture, you might think of getting ahold of an assassin model, and using it. Nothing more symbolic than an assassin hunting down a lone legionaire just like Curze allowed himself to be killed by one.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

WHOA, WHOA, WHOA-does anyone remember reading the end of 'Fallen Angles'-and how the Lion hands Peturbato a few of the biggest tanks in the Imperium, and he isn't aware of the fact that he is a heretic? The moral is: Looks are deceiving.

It always vaguely talks of the Night Lords committing all kinds of atrocities in the galactic east after Horus checked out. So I guess you could run an Ultramarine and it wouldn't be too off the mark either.

Reminds me of my own diorama project, a couple of Fallen manage to capture a Dark Angel

Raven Guard.
There is the obvious part where the Night Lords took part in the dropsite massacre that effectively destroyed their legion.
There are similarities between the original two legions. Both Primarchs were raised amongst people who lived in fear, both could make themselves disappear at will, both became experts at shadow war/ guerrilla fighting.

I know that is not reason for a grudge (apart from dropsite massacre), but it would be interesting to have two similar type marines fighting each other, one a corrupt version of the other, you should give them the same type of weapons as each other too.

I'd vote for either the Raven Guard or Dark Angels for reasons already stated in this thread.
