Hello Dakka, your wisdom is required once again!
Question of the day is how cover and artillery units are treated.
If i have a Thunderfire cannon inside a ruin does it get a cover save like an infantry unit (just because it is inside cover) or like a vehicle (25% must be obscured).
How does the Techmarine affect cover?
Or maybe the rules are completely different? Is the unit treated like a 2 model unit and if 50% of the unit is in cover the whole unit gets cover?

I would say its covered in the thread above buddy ( Cover saves for vehicles behind Aegis Def Line )
But yes i would say it can use the cover save of that ruin and i forget but am sure that Tec marines can do that special rule were they can build up the defences of ruin to offer +1 cover but don't quote me on it bud.

The artillery piece is a vehicle so mustbe 25% covered. LIke everything you then gain the cover save of what is granting you cover

So, let me know if i get this right:
I have the Cannon and the techmarine in a ruin.
If the unit that is targeting the artillery is closer to the techmarine, then the shot is resolved against the marine who has a 4+ cover save thanks to being inside the ruin.
if the unit that is targeting the artillery is closer to the cannon model, then the shot is resolved against the cannon, which may or may have not a 4+ cover save depending which percentage of the model is obscured from the firer's point of view
Correct??

Correct. Cover is based model by model, as you resolve the wound / hit against them.

Is it classed as a vehicle even though it doesnt have a AV rating?

That is what made me wonder in the first place..
If it is considered a vehicle the above is correct..
if it is not a vehicle, it should get the cover save all the time as long as it is inside the ruin.. Automatically Appended Next Post: I can not find anything in the codex that supports one or the other..

Thats called edition malaise - you are absolutely correct
It just has T and W now, and no special requirement, so you just need to be 25% covered like any other model, or inside area terrain

Then the Thunderfire has a cover save if inside area terrain all the time, regardless of visible percentages?

That's not correct, Nos. Too much holiday cheer!
Vehicles still don't automatically qualify for a cover save for being in area terrain (see p75), and need to be 25% covered to claim a save.
However artillery no longer function like vehicles; they're 2W, T7 models, so automatically get a cover save for being in Area terrain, or otherwise need to be 25% covered by other terrain, like any other model does in 6th.

The TFC would get the save in accordance with what ever terrain it is in just like infantry. So for ruins it would normally get the 4+ then the techmarines bolster defences it would get a 3+. Because Artillery no longer has a AV it now has a Toughness and wounds. Treat it like a normal figure.
