So I'm tierd of ruined models from spray cans, my own fault I know, but it just seems easier with an airbrush.

What is a good primer and thinner I can use?

Getting some Vallejo Air for basecoats too.

vallejo polyurithane surface primer works great for me! goes straight through about any airbrush (even my 1.5mm H&S)

The three best primers i have run across are Testors flat black, Floquil black and Rustoleum Camouflage flat black.

All of these provide a clean, even coating. Floquil is the best out of the 3 by leaps and bounds, but it is also quite pricy. Testors is a very good median and rustoleum is good if you are on a budget.

I highly recommend Vallejo Surface Primer in any of their colors. I recently started using it myself and it is amazing in the difference it makes when priming.

There is no smell, no overspray, and no loss of detail on the figure. It is also much easier to get a complete prime without leaving any spots bare. There is also no need to thin the primer as it comes ready to use out of an airbrush.

Just remember to get the 60ml container over the 17ml. The smaller ones are like a small pot of GW paint in size and not worth the price.

A 200ml bottle of Vallejo Surface primer is about $16 and will prime a few hundred miniatures. One of the really nice things is being able to prime stuff without going outside.

I've recently had massive issues with Vallejo Surface Primer, but I don't know whether it's just a bad batch - as the reviews online speak wonders of it.

But hey, it does spray well and comes pre-thinned. Which is a plus.

Just remember that with AB primers you have to be especially dilligent when it comes to cleaning.
